J6480 installation not completing

The software will not complete installation.  I've tried the CD several times, I tried the .exe from the HP support site. I've even tried installing with my firewall turned off.  I have no idea what the install program is doing (if anything).  Why is this not working? This is extremely frustrating.  I just bought this today and I can't get it to work.  I have an HP laptop and an HP printer and they won't work together, that makes no sense...

 

I have the HP v8000 laptop with Windows XP Media Center Edition, plenty of HDD and RAM space available.

did you encounter any error messages when you were installing the software?? is this wireless connection or usb connection??

I found a solution to my particular problem here: " Printer Software Installation Stalls or Stops in Windows XP with a USB-connected All-in-One" http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01308710&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=3635378&os=... [this link no longer functions].  It is installed and working now, but it seems silly to have to go through the trouble of stopping all services just to perform an install.  I am still not entirely sure what specifically was causing the problem.  at least it is working now, and I hope it stays that way.

I have a dell computer and J6480 all in one printer.  My printer quit scanning and the computer said it couldn't fint the device.  I uninstalled it and when trying to re-install I get "fatal error 2753" and the reinstall stops.  I tried cleaning up the registry, re-booted and tried to reinstall.  Checking the web says many others have this problem.  what can be done?

When I try to install this All in One Printer, it will not complete.  It states that: The operating system on this computer is not supported.  This cannot continue until this is resolved.  Current OS: 601.64.  Supported Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows XP 64 bit, Vista & Vista 64 bit.  Action required,click cancel,  exit this software installation.  Install this product on a computer that is running one of the supported Microsoft operating systems.  This is a HP Compputer with a HP printer, how can I install this printer?

The link is over 2 years old, so the pages/links have probably moved around.  You can just go to support.hp.com and search for "Printer Software Installation Stalls or Stops in Windows XP with a usb connected All-in-One"  hopefully that helps.  If not you may need to call HP tech support.

 

I should mention, this original issue was posted 2 years ago, I don't use the HP with WinXP computer I had problems with.  Windows 7 seems to handle the same printer just fine.
