J6480 network setup - Doesn't "SEE" any networks

Trying to set up new j6480 printer wirelessly.  Followed setup instructions on the disk.  When I get to the window for selecting my network, the printer doesn't "see" any networks.  I've tried the following:

1.  Making sure everything is on and that the router is functioning correctly.

2.  Making sure network discovery is on.

3.  Making sure the wireless radio on the printer is on.

4.  Entering network SSID manually.

Any suggestions?  All I see when I search are nightmare reports from other 6480 owners spending 5 hours on the phone with tech support.

I'm running Vista Home Premium 32 and a Linksys Wireless-N Gigabit Router.  All other printer functions work.  No other network problems (i.e. laptops all connect and work fine).

Re: J6480 network setup - Doesn't "SEE" any networks

I have the exact same problem on my J6450.  Don't waste your time talking to HP Tech Support - it is all outsourced to India and they are clueless.  I personally wasted 2 hours today with them and it got me absolutely no where!

I may call HP corporate tomorrow to see if I can figure out a way to talk to a real HP Tech Support person the US.

Re: J6480 network setup - Doesn't "SEE" any networks

Have you tried going into the Network section of the Setup Menu and selecting the 'Restore Network Defaults' option and THEN trying to connect to your network?

Re: J6480 network setup - Doesn't "SEE" any networks

Just tried that - went thru adding a device from the HP Install CD - went thru the entire process and in the end it could not find the printer wirelessly.  I printed the Wireless Network Test Report - no problems found.  Passed all of the diagnostic tests.

This is beyond frustrating...

Any other suggestions?  I have my own post regarding my situation - http://h30434.www3.hp.com/psg/board/message?board.id=Networking&thread.id=1562.

Thanks!

Re: J6480 network setup - Doesn't "SEE" any networks

After restoring the network default settings, did you run the wireless setup wizard again? and if it did, then did you get an IP address for the printer?

If you have it, then open your printers folder, then from the file menu, select 'Server Properties'. Now look under the Ports tab for any Std. TCP\IP ports or HP Std. TCP\IP Ports with the same IP or serial number of your printer. if you find any, then delete them and try searching for the printer again.

Re: J6480 network setup - Doesn't "SEE" any networks

After restoring the network default settings, I did not run the wireless setup wizard.  I went through the "Add Device" process for wireless connection and the printer could not be found.  I then restored the default settings again and did run the wizard - same result - could not find the printer.

Before doing this I did what you said above regarding looking in the Ports tab and deleting any TCP/IP ports.  I did delete one that I had set up when I was trying yesterday to set up the printer through Windows (that of course didn't work either).

More suggestions please!

Re: J6480 network setup - Doesn't "SEE" any networks

Try to add a device, and when it doesnt detect the printer, click on Next. It'll ask you to plug in the USB cable. Once you do that, you can select teh wireless settings on your printer through the computer. have you tried that already?

Re: J6480 network setup - Doesn't "SEE" any networks

Yes, have done that several times.  Did that during the process of following your previous suggestions.  Same result - USB connected, shows my wireless SSID, I select it and it proceeds to try to find the printer.  End result - laptop cannot find printer.

Re: J6480 network setup - Doesn't "SEE" any networks

Okay - so I have an iPod Touch and I thought maybe I could figure out a way to print from it to my HP printer.  So I read on this board about HP iPrint Photo.  It doesn't list my printer as a supported printer, but thought I'd give it a try anyway.  I downloaded the HP iPrint Photo app to my iPod, pulled up a photo, and printed it wirelessly to my printer without any issue whatsoever.  The entire process from downloading the app to printing took literally 30 seconds.

This proves that the printer is set up correctly and is definitely connected to my wireless router correctly.  So what gives with my laptop?  Why can't my laptop see the printer?

Anymore suggestions or assistance would be greatly appreciated!
