L7580 "out of paper" when there is plenty of paper.

Hi,

My L7580 has started playing up. All functions work ok except printing. When I try to print, one page is picked up and ejected straight away, then a second page is drawn up to 3/4 of the way out. The printer then chimes and says "out of paper, load paper tray and press OK."

I've cleaned rollers and checked for stuck bits of paper, checked the duplexer and cannot for the life of me work out why it thinks there is no paper. Does anyone know where the paper sensors are and how I can check their operation?

Thanks.

Cheers

Brett

Re: L7580 "out of paper" when there is plenty of paper.

I did the power cord pull. When I plugged it back in the printer whirred and clunked etc for a good couple of minutes doing it's self check. At one point it spits out a couple of pages of paper and gives the "out of paper" error. If I press ok at this stage, I can see on it's screen "aligning printer". After I press ok, it spits out another couple of pages and again declares "out of paper".

Does that help with the diagnosis?

Can anyone help with this one? Searching with Google yields a few results with others having the same problem, but no resolution. I don't want to have to throw this printer out when the rest of it works ok. :smileysad:

Re: L7580 "out of paper" when there is plenty of paper.

I have exactly the same issue with an Officejet Pro L7680.

It throws out quickly 2 blank pages after each other, then asks me to "load paper in the device".

When I say Ok, it justs does the thing over and over again.

I tried the power cord stuff with   # 3,  nothing helps.

Anyone a clue?

I have the same problem with an Officejet J6480 all-in-one.  I also tried the reset function, which consists of.

1. Unplugging the cord.  Wait 20 seconds.

2. Holding down # and 3, then plugging the cord back in.

3. Release # and 3

That reset it to factory defaults.  But it didn't solve the problem

Skippy - no the video does not help at all. The printer picks and feeds the paper just fine, it does not detect that it has done so however.

The only option in your video is getting the printer serviced - which HP refused to do for me.

Re: L7580 "out of paper" when there is plenty of paper.

Hmmm.   Sounds like this could be caused by a paper sensor that isn't working correctly or incorrect paper size settings.

Give this a  try.  Go to this page...

...and try solution 2 by making sure your paper size settings correctly match your paper.  If that doesn't work, try Solution three (disable automatic paper type sensor).

Re: L7580 "out of paper" when there is plenty of paper.

Skippy, I applaud that you're trying to help with this problem.

The problem is not application specific - that is, when you try to do the print test report function straight off the printer, the problem occurs, so it's not to do with paper detection.

It is probably the paper sensor in the printer. As HP will not service the printer I'm open to suggestions as to how I might replace the sensor - then I won't have to junk the printer.
