Laserjet Pro M1212nf won't install on ASUS K53E Laptop

Recently purchased K53E using Windows 7 (64 bit) laptop tried to setup Laserjet Pro M1212nf on laptop. Download drivers/software to laptop used utility to install printer hardware, message displayed "software installation stopped working".  Looked  Devices and printers Laserjet Pro setup as a storage device (DVD drive) and a printer but won't print test page.  When I go into device manager printer is listed under DVD/CD ROM not under Universal Serial Bus Controllers.  Please help.

Try the following procedure and let me know if anything changes.

From Original installation CD:

1. Insert CD into drive, and then cancel the installer

2. Open My Computer, and then right click on the CD drive and chose open

3. Open folder Util

4. Open folder CCC

5. If you have an HP computer run the L3uninstall.exe. If you have a non-HP computer run the L4uninstall.exe

6. When the uninstall has completed restart the computer

7. Run Disk cleanup from Accessories\ System Tools

8. Download and install the latest version of Adobe flash player

http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

9. Download the full feature software and drivers

Laserjet Pro M1212nf Software (Windows 7 64bit)

10. Run the download to reinstall the printer

If software was downloaded and extracted to your system:

1. Type %temp% in the run field

2. Look for, and open the folder starting with 7z (Example: 7zS2356)

3. Open folder Util

4. Open folder CCC

5. If you have an HP computer run the L3uninstall.exe. If you have a non-HP computer run the L4uninstall.exe

6. When the uninstall has completed restart the computer

7. Run Disk cleanup from Accessories\ System Tools

8. Download and install the latest version of Adobe flash player

9. Download the full feature software and drivers

10. Run the download to reinstall the printer

Thank you for your speedy reply.

I inserted the original installation disk for the HP M1212nf.  Unfortunately I did not find the "CCC" folder within the "Util" folder there is ntScrubber folder and SIUtility.exe and SIUtility64.exe.  Please advise.

Sorry about that. As you stated there is no "CCC" folder. Laserjets drivers don't have those.

Try unplugging the printer from the computer and restarting your computer. After logging in try plugging the USB port back in. Smart Install should start. Let me know if anything changes.

Ureka, it's working.

P.S.:  I installed drivers using the installation disk for the machine.  I got the same message "HP Printer Software installer has stopped working".  The previous window said it had something to do with the print spooler.  I existed out of the operation, open Word and printed a document and the printer worked.

Glad you are able to print! Still sounds like you may have some problems with the installation thought. I would check other features such as scanning to see if all is in order. If you remember the exact problem with the spooler that would be good to post as well. Let me know what happens.

Spoke too soon.  Printer isn't working again.  When I installed drivers from disk it worked.  I disconnected the printer from the laptop went home. The next day I connected the printer to the laptop and the printer doesn't work.  When I open the printers and devices the printer is listed as a storage device and a printer.  Why is it doing this?

Try the firmware update utility and see if updating the firmware resolves the issue. You may also want to try the HP Print and Scan Doctor which is a good utilty that may be useful.

I downloaded the firmware update.  Nothing changed.

I downloaded the printer and scan doctor.  I can proceed past the window that says "make sure power is turned on" at the bottom of window you can press "retry" or "back" buttons.

What is the length of your USB cable? Have you tried another one? What about trying to install the printer on the network?
