Have a P1505 connected via USB port which has decided to stop working.
Have tried the uninstall - re-install solution(?) without any success.
Have Windows XP + SP2 and a nice short USB cable between the devices.
When using the so called EZInstall utility we go through the process of - New Printer Detected. Please wait... followed by the inevitable "Installation operation failed".
Looking at device manager shows an "unknown device" connected in the USB controllers area.
I have searched high and low for a solution to this problem but to no avail. All I see are the same old uninstall re-install, change cable advice.
In my job I have to install printers of many types and make onto users systems. I have more problems with the cheaper HP printer installs than any other.
I dread having to attend callouts for these cheaper HP products as we all have so many problems with them.
It is getting to the stage where we are suggesting that users don't buy the cheaper HP printers.

Can ANYONE help with this piece of junk printer? I tried to install it. It's a P1505 connecting to a Dell Latitude D630 laptop (Win XP) USB port. Yes I'm using a short USB cable.
Every time I get to the portion of the installation where it prompts me to "Plug in the USB cable and power on your printer" I get stuck. The computer doesn't recognize the printer and the only button that is active on the dialog box is "Back".
What have I tried to remedy this? Oh let's count the ways:
- New USB cable
- Different USB port
- Uninstalled and reinstalled drivers from CD - three times!
- Downloaded new drivers from HP support forum
- Attempted to do a printer self-test (print a page when not hooked to PC) - didn't respond
I am going to try to install this piece of junk on another PC but am not optimistic.
Can anyone provide any suggestions or help? PLEASE!

Yes, that is exactly what I did. After much back-and-forth, I returned it for a new printer. The new one works perfectly, which leads me to believe there was some hardware issue with the USB port of the old printer.
Thanks.
