No HP devices have been detected. HP Solution Center will now close

Windows XP Professional wih Windows Update run regularly

HP Deskjet F2180

When I try to open HP Solution Center, the following message displays on the computer: 'No HP devices have been detected. HP Solution Center will now close.

I can scan using the Windows Scanner & Camera Wizard, and print.  Isn't it ridiculous that basic Windows functions can detect and work some aspects of the device but HP's own software cannot?

I cannot use the OCR program or use the Deskjet as a photocopier;  to copy I have to scan to a file and print from that.

I have spent hours following the instructions at http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02468684&cc=uk&dlc=en&lc=en&product=3177562&tmp... to the letter step by step, and exactly the same thing happens still.

I do not have time to keep trying things; is there a quick fix?

Regards,

Martin

Re: No HP devices have been detected. HP Solution Center will now close

I have had the same 6500 e709 for a couple of years and I get the same message even though all but the scan functions work.  The solution center doesn't close, but I try a reinstall and about every third time I get "This printer is not compatable with my software"  Win7 Pro is not listed.  When I use the updated software from the web the solution center never finds my computer.

I do not know how but the HP Product Assistant has fixed the problem for me; I didn't know the HP Product Assistant existed until recently.

Happy new year everyone.

Re: No HP devices have been detected. HP Solution Center will now close

Ok, real simple fix here folks. After months of dealing with this problem. Uninstall, reinstall, take the computer back to the box, install, uninstal, and reinstall again........ and then the PC God's smiled upon me!

1. Click on start

2. Click run

3. Type: services.msc

4. Click ok

You will be presented with the services console. Scroll down unbtil you find the service "hpqcxs08".

This is the service that runs the Digital Imaging Monitor. Double click on this service.

In the box that appears there will be that says "Startup Type. If this says Manual or Disabled, change it to Automatic, then click on start.

Next click on OK

Close the Services Console.

Double click on HP Solution Center icon and voila!!

Solution Center should be running.

By changing the service startup to Automatic, it will start everytime you turn on your PC asnd it will keep running until you turn off you PC.

This should solve yourt problem, it solved mine.

Re: No HP devices have been detected. HP Solution Center will now close

My scanner quit working a couple days ago.  Probably related to registry clean-up using CCleaner as nothing else has changed.  I have uninstalled the programs and hardware and reinstalled everything.  I successfully ran HP Diagnostic Scan 4.2 before the uninstall/reinstall and got error messages relating to HP Twain Scan and HP Scan Flow Manager.  Now when I try to run the HP Diagnostic Scan it quits when it gets to the HP Twain Scan.

When I try to use HP Solution Center I get a message that "No HP devices have been detected."  When I try to use Read IRIS the program quits as soon as I click "Scan."  When the HP Diag. Scan starts there is obviously communication with the scanner because it runs a scan during the Windows (WIA) Scan.  When I reinstall the software the scanner runs during the install and I get a message that the software has been successfully installed.

I did a system restore to a date when the scanner was working and prior to the CCleaner clean-up.

I performed the lengthy HP remove and reinstall procedure.  Still no luck.

Any ideas?

Here is a screen shot of what I see when I try to configure the scanner for ReadIRIS.  The Brother entries are for a networked Brother multi-purpose device.  The VueScan is for a slide scanning program.  Should I see an entry for the HP software?

I just noticed this.  The Scanjet 4890 is listed in the Device Manager but is not listed under Scanners and Cameras in the Control Panel.

Re: No HP devices have been detected. HP Solution Center will now close

I've uninstalled and re-installed my HP Photosmart All-in-one printer/scanner numerous times, both from the CD and by downloads over the internet.  I can print, but whenever I click on the Solutions Center (the scanning facility) I get the "no HP devices have been detected.  As I attempt to diagnose the problem, now and then I also get an error message: "Access is denied, as the folder is not ready to be read."  Any help out there?

I tried run / services.msc/ hpqcxs08 / set to automatic.  It did NOT work.
