No HP devices have been detected. HP Solution Center will close now.

I have the OfficeJet Pro L7680. I have it on my LAN with several computers able to scan and print (both XP and Vista). I installed the basic configuration (OJProL7X00_Basic_8_3.exe ) on a new 32-bit XP computer assuming that I would be able to scan. The installation went smoothly and I was able to print.

Realizing my mistake about the scanning, I uninstalled and then downloaded and installed the full configuration (OJProL7X00_Full_8_3.exe). I got the dreaded “'No Network printers could be found. Click next for assistance.” message. I continued installing and rebooted. I still could not get it to detect the printer. I get the “No HP devices have been detected. HP Solution Center will close now.” dialog.

I went through all the different procedures like disabling the firewall and creating a static IP. I manually added the printer with “Add Printer” menu item in the “Printers and Faxes” dialog and I’m able to print. I can’t open the “Solution Center.”

I have gone through all the uninstall procedures many times over the last two days including using OJProL7X00_Scrubber_8.exe.

I have had so much trouble this software. Every so often my wife or kids come to me and tell me they can’t print from their computer and I know it’s going to be several hours to figure out why. I haven’t been satisfied with the software on a HP printer since the very first LaserJet.  Why does it take 320Mbytes to print and scan? My $99 Samsung Laser printer works like a charm.

Re: No HP devices have been detected. HP Solution Center will close now.

I had a 7550 on a wired network with a static IP and Solution Center was working beautifully on a wired XP, and wireless XP and Vista machines on the network. For various reasons unrelated to the HP software or printer, I reformatted the C drive on the wired XP machine, reinstalled the OS from scratch and of course I seem to have broken the only thing that wasn't previously broken as I'm now dealing with the dreaded 'No HP devices' message. For the life of me, I cannot get Solution Center to see this printer.

I have been through countless installs/uninstalls/L4 scrubber/registry cleaners/msconfig/services.msc and of course disabled my firewall and anti-virus programs. Changed from static IP to DHCP. Disabled the firewall in my router. While I'm not MS-certfied, neither am I a clueless user. I can ping the printer just fine. I can run webadmin on the printer just fine. I even updated the firmware and THAT HP utility found the printer just fine. I manually added a TCP/IP port and added the printer there so I can ultimately print just fine, too.  I have spent hours -- and I mean HOURS -- on the HP Solution Center problem and no matter what I've tried, it simply cannot see this device.

The truly frustrating thing is that these *exact* same dynamics worked as of 4 days ago. Same computer, same printer, same router, same network config, same everything. The *only* change was a clean reinstall of the OS on the C partition.

The only thing that I can think of is that is different, is that my original HP Solution Center install was already in place *before* XPSP3 was released. In other words, I'd installed HP Solution Center and the printer on XP SP2, then later updated to SP3. With this recent OS install, I applied SP3, and *then* installed the HP software. I'm not too terribly deep into reinstalling my apps that I couldn't roll back the OS again, and install the HP software before loading SP3, but that's still more hours of time with no guarantee that it'd work anyway.

Is there really no solution to this problem? It is clearly an HP Solution Center issue.

Re: No HP devices have been detected. HP Solution Center will close now.

[ Edited ]

I remembered that I had an old laptop running XP SP2, that had never had this printer installed, or HP Solution Center. Installed Solution Center and it found the networked printer immediately. Finished the install and everything works like a charm - no dreaded "No HP devices detected" error.

Went back to my troublesome XP SP3 machine and rolled SP3 back to SP2. Uninstalled and scrubbed HP Solution Center and all traces of HP from the registry, everything -- clean sweep.

Rebooted, reinstalled HP Solution Center and on the very first attempt it found the printer and installed (with the interminable wait at 96%) it. Loaded up Solution Center after the install and no more error about "No HP devices have been detected."

It is clearly an XP SP3 issue. I don't know what is wrong with HP that they can't figure that out and fix it.

I need the printer/scanner/Solution Center working on my main machine so I'm not going to take a chance and reinstall SP3 on it, but I may give it a try on the laptop and will report back.

I hadn't gone very far into my new XP install so rolling back to SP2 didn't mess up anything else. YMMV, if you've installed lots of new apps, hardware, etc. Rolling back will likely break other stuff.

Re: No HP devices have been detected. HP Solution Center will close now.

I have an Officejet Pro L7580. My laptop runs on Windows XP SP3 and I was able to install the All in One tool successfully the first time using the full configuration. I used the Networked wired option to detect the printer although I bit slow but no issues. I was also able to install it successfully in two other laptops, Windows Vista and Mac over my home Network. Now, After a couple of days all of the sudden the Digital Imaging Monitor (DIM) located in the lower right corner of the screen was present but in an initializing mode. After a double click the "No devices have been found" error message showed up for the first time in my Windows XP SP3 laptop. I checked the other two laptops running on Windows Vista and Mac but the tool was working fine. I followed all the instructions published in HP support, uninstall, use a static IP address, disable windows and third party firewalls and so on and reinstall the HP software tool but I was never able during the installation process to detect my network printer. So, I did the same process again but using the USB connection option and although the tool was able to detect the Officejet Pro printer I was not able to run HP Solution Center tool. The printer was added successfully and I am able to print over the network or through USB but I can not run the tool. It looks like the Windows SP3 update maybe causing the problem but I am unable to roll back to SP2 at the moment to be 100% certain.

Re: No HP devices have been detected. HP Solution Center will close now.

Folks i ran into this same problem tried for days to get it fixed(What a pain in the *ss)... finally i found a collection of internet articles that helped me when combined together pieces from each.  My problem occurred either after some Windows updates or an HP update.

My Environment (Windows XP SP2, HP L7680 All In One).

Symptoms:  Solution center opens and says no HP devices detected click ok to close now...

Other symptoms:  trying to reinstall from the online downloads or even the orignal product failed because during the installation when trying to detect the device on my wired network failed either by default search or even when i keyed in the static IP address.  It would just say that it could not find a device... even when i could print to the device, ping the device and access the devices home page with the web browser.

#1.  Uninstall all HP software using the add remove software

#2.  Download and run the L1, L2, L3, L4 uninstall bats with the removal scrubber that you can download... (This may or may not be necessary but could shorten step 4. (Reboot)

#3.  Make sure all the processes/services for HP have been stopped or killed.

#4.  Delete the HP folder in program files if that was your install location.

#5.  Delete the windows/twain folder.  some advice rename but i found it for my situation a delete was fine.

#6.  Backup your registry.

#7. I ran devmgmt.msc from the command prompt and unstalled the imaging device for my printer because it was still there.  In my situation it was the L7680 all in one.

#8.  Search and either rename or remove entries/trees that contain any of the following "/HP" or "hewl" or very important "AIO"  the "AIO" word will also have HP somewhere associated in the registry data value or somewhere in the tree.  For my situation almost but not all occurances of AIO had HP somewhere but there were a few that did not and i did not remove them for fear of hurting something other than the printer setup software.

During this process in my situation some entries i found i just deleted because they were clearly HP stuff... others if i had any doubt were renamed with appended "zzz" value either in the data portion or the parent tree node of the registry data where the keywords were found.  obviously just in case there were problems i could search for zzz and restore things to what the were... but like i said earlier... i deleted allot that were obvious.

#9.   Reboot make sure all is well with the registry... i didn't have any problems.

#10. After i rebooted i tried to install using the FULL software downloaded from HP for my device that contains all software available similary to the cd.

       * This had a new complaint about missing AIO/MSI files... which based on assimilating some other posts i found on the net had me believe i was on the right trail.

#11.  I whipped out my original product CD and re-installed and everything worked beautifully and behavior is back to normal.

Summary:

        1.  HP's software gets confused easy during software updates or printer IP changes.

        2.  The normal software removal process is complete crap and leaves a ton of stuff in the registry that confuses or hampers the reinstall from truly creating a clean slate to start from.

        3.  The problem i believe is with a corrupt network detection libraries and in following the steps outlined above I was basically able to remove all HP references and make the software believe it was finally a clean slate.

        4.  The downloadable software for my device clearly doesn't contain all of the essential base libraries to do a "complete" initial installation (network libraries etc...)

Re: No HP devices have been detected. HP Solution Center will close now.

I have an PhotoSmart c6180, giving me the dreaded 'No network printers could be found. Click next for assistance.'

I found a simple solution. May not work for everyone, but here goes.

1. Plug printer directly into computer via USB cable.

2. Install printer as 'Local printer connected via USB cable'

3. Control Panel > Printers > (right-click on your HP Printer) > Properties > Ports > Add Port > standard TCP/IP port > New Port >Next > (your HP Printer Name from your Printer Configuration ) > Next.

4. If the printer is not found, choose Custom and add the correct IP address, also shown on your Printer Configuration.

Hope it work for you. Enjoy!

320Mb for a printer driver. Ridiculous. Let's suggest the error message be changed to  'No network printers could be found. Click next for more HP Installaton Annoyance, Bloated Software, and all around Excessive Stupidity'

Re: No HP devices have been detected. HP Solution Center will close now.

Thanks sscenes. Your posting dated by 10-16-2009 05:17 PM has helped me a lot. I could recontact my printer HP photosmart C6280 again after having the same error. Just loosing completely the connection to the printer and no official help from HP themselves is a shame ! I could still contact it directly by IP-address, but this did not help at all. By the way the correct HP printer name (your HP Printer Name from your Printer Configuration) was in my case: HP-C6280. I could find this name by addressing the IP-address in a browser - otherwise write IP-address of the printer in that field.

Re: No HP devices have been detected. HP Solution Center will close now.

I am late to the party.  I have the "No HP Device" error.  Is there someway, to scan without HP Solutions working?  I do not have the skills required to remove all traces of HP software from my computer.

Re: No HP devices have been detected. HP Solution Center will close now.

Yes, you can scan without the software...either make a shortcut on your desktop to the IP address of the printer, or just enter the IP in your browser.  You'll have full access to the device

Re: No HP devices have been detected. HP Solution Center will close now.

I have the same error. Windows XP SP3. Most of the replies here is assuming the printer/scanner is on a network. What if the printer is not a network printer? How do you resolve the issue? Is there any way I can scan without the software tool? Your help is highly appreciated.
