I ran the installation software (downloaded 13.0.0 Full setup) but cannot see the printer when I plug in the USB cable as instructed. I have setup the printer on the WiFi router and can print wirelessly no prob. But, because I cannot see the printer, I cannot get the scanner setup. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate and disabled all startup items except the firewall (which the program says it is OK to leave running).
Any idea appreciated beforre I return this thing.

Hi There,
I tried another USB cable that I know works from my older printer, with the same result.
Tried to scan from the printer and saw the message 'Scan To' (on the printer screen) and of course nothing is setup and I could no proceed. I have a similar setup with a Lexmark and on the PC one needs to start the imaging software before scanning. Knowing that, when I started the HP imaging software it showed that I have not completed the setup (because I can't get to the device with the cable to set it up) and told me to complete the setup first. Chicken and egg going on here.
I am using the CA Internet Suite firewall, and disabled the anti-virus and anti-spyware software to load the drivers. Perhaps I should disable everything, including startup items and reload the software. Though I find it hard to believe that HP put out a product that is so sensitive.
Thanks for the help.
BFN,
Chris

I believe it's the CA Internet Security Firewall that blocks the full installation. Most Internet Security Suite software blocks the HP installation. It truly is sensitive, we have forwarded this issue to our software engineers & was told that it is due to the modern blocking technique of the firewall software.
HP has diagnostic tools like Network Diagnostic Utility that works like a hacking sotware, thus being bolocked by firewalls.
Try to disable your firewall & install Hp.tell me how it goes...

OK, so here's the story so far.
I dumped the download of the Full install because when I looked at it, it showed 510g-m and I have a 510n. Even though the website shows the full version as being applicable to the 510n, which is what I searched for. So there's a problem right there.
So, I downloaded the driver only version, which showed 510n-z, and voila, the driver loaded properly and I could see the device.
Two problems though:
1. It installed the printer as a USB device, even though it's wireless, and I could not change that designation and get it to work as wireless. To resolve, I had to simply install the device as a wireless printer. Now I can fax, print and copy.
2. I have no way to invoke the scanner portion of the device. I have nothing on the PC and the device doesn't allow me to scan because I have nowhere setup to scan to.
I know the full version does not work as it cannot see the printer because it's the wrong model for the software.
Therefore my question is: What software do I now load to get the scanner working?
I have spent far too much time on what should have been a simple task. I'll give it one more evening before returning the device and buying a competitive product.
Hope you can help.
Thanks,
Chris

Chris, You need the correct driver download to have all the printer's functionality. If your printer is HP Officejet 4500 Wireless All-in-One Printer - G510n... here is the link for you to download the full feature driver or the basic drivers : http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategor
