OfficeJet J6480 "specified service does not exist as an installed service."

I'm trying to install an OfficeJet J6480 on a computer with Windows XP.  It keeps freezing during the installation, and displays the error "The specified service does not exist as an installed service."  I tried a solution posted on these forums for another HP all-in-one ( http://h30434.www3.hp.com/psg/board/message?board.id=Install&message.id=7598&query.id=215383#M7598 ), but the solution posted there did not work for me.

Did you ever figure this out?  I am having the same issue with my j4680c on Windows Xp.  The printer is successfully connected to the network, yet the installer cannot see the printer over the network

Re: OfficeJet J6480 "specified service does not exist as an installed service."

I eventually figured it out after several hours on the phone with HP customer service, but unfortunately (thankfully?), I don't remember what the actual solution was.

That solution enabled printing, but not scanning.  What I eventually ended up doing was just using only the "webscan" feature, which works fine without the software package, so long as the printer is in fact connected to your wireless network (which somehow HP customer service and I managed to do, over the phone).

To set up doing a webscan, after you get the printer connected to your network, hit the "setup" button on the printer, and then navigate through the options (on the screen on the printer, not on your computer's screen) until you get to the page that lets you print your network configuration.

On that printout, you'll see your printer's IP address.

Put the IP address into the URL field of your web browser and hit "enter."  That will take you to a webpage for managing your printer, including with the option to do your scanning via your web browser.
