Officejet 6500 Duplex Printing attachment model?

I know this seems like a really stupid question but the HP product page for the Officejet 6500 doesn't contain the answer.

My question: What is the model number of the paper duplexing mechanism required to print two-sided on the Officejet 6500? There are a few of them and as far as I can tell none of them list the Officejet 6500 as a compatible printer even though the printer box said it supports a duplex printing attachment.

Thanks so much for your help!

HP's partsurfer site lists the following:

CB057-67001

Duplexer module - Provides double sided printing capability - Officejet 6500 All-in-One printer series

[Edit - despite what the partsurfer site and other sites (and some users) have suggested, it appears the e709a version of the Officejet 6500 will not support the duplexer, even if using a different driver and physically installing a duplexer.]

Re: Officejet 6500 Duplex Printing attachment model?

Alex,

Don't bother getting the part if you have a 709a non wireless printer.  It will not do automatic duplexing even with the duplexer installed.  Bought the part and installed it and the printer will not recognize the part.  It seems to be a software issue with HP and you can't fix it to recognize the duplexer.  Had I known this I would have spent 50 extra to get the 709n.  Now I am stuck with a printer that does not do what I want.  I wish HP would have labeled the printer to let you know that it can't do this.  Even when you check the manual it says only some printer may not have this option.  THank you HP.

I would be surprised if you cannot enable the duplexer. Typically this is done in the printers folder, right click on the printer, run as administrator, (continue), properties, device settings, and set the duplex unit to installed, apply.

If this does not work please give some more details of what operating system you have and what error messages (if any) you see.

Re: Officejet 6500 Duplex Printing attachment model?

I have the same issue.

The driver says that it is installed, but the Printer Status Report from the printer itself states that it is not installed.

There are not error messages when I try to print duplex, it just prints on one side.

Any advice would be VERY helpful

Re: Officejet 6500 Duplex Printing attachment model?

Bob,

I am running winxp 64bit.  It is not a matter of the op system.  I have spent hours on the line with hp and the 709a version of the 6500 is incapable of automatic duplexeing.  I tried  printer properties and even the menus on the printer itself.  there is no option for recognizing the duplexer.  HP wasn't even sure until they did some research.  Had to return the printer minus 15 percent and get the wireless one not on sale any more.  HP did refund my cost for the duplexer and extended  the warranty for 4 years, but I still wound up paying 75 dollars more than if I had got the wireless one  right away.  The manual is not clear at all on the 6500 non wireless.

Re: Officejet 6500 Duplex Printing attachment model?

That's not good - as I am having the same experience, although I haven't returned mine yet.

It is especially frustrating since the help desk has stated that aside from the drivers, the duplexer, and the wireless unit, there is no difference between the two models. Equally frustrating given that the duplexer was purchased directly from HP with the help of a sales person.

Nothing personal, but I hope you are wrong :-)

Re: Officejet 6500 Duplex Printing attachment model?

I was going to purchase this attachment until I read this thread. I am absolutely mad at HP because I was led to believe that there were just 2 models of the Officejet 6500, wireless and non wireless. I was not bothered about the wireless version, so I opted for the other one. When I installed this I found only manual duplexing. I wrote to support and they replied that the 709a spec was clearly evident, something I completely disagree with. I specifically needed duplex, and now to my horror I find that it is an extra. The scanner will not scan transparencies either, so I've really taken a step backwards. I have just scrapped a Deskjet 930c and a separate Canon scanner  which were far superior to this basic AiO. I think this is just a marketing ploy. It is positively unclear to the purchaser that there are a series of this model. I'm using MiniMac.

Re: Officejet 6500 Duplex Printing attachment model?

I purchased the duplexer for my 6500 wired printer, it arrived on the 9th of Oct, I installed it like the instructions said to but it didn't work so I contacted HP via on-line chat, spent 2hrs on-line troubleshooting the duplexer, was sent a different duplexer because the first one I recevied was "defective", when through the same routine, 2 hrs on-line troubleshooting the duplexer, was then sent a remanufactured printer because it was a "printer issue", spent 2 hours on-line troubleshooting the same issue and then was informed that the printer won't work with the duplexer. I also had to make several phone calls because the replacement duplexer was not shipped even though it showed as having been ordered. I had to get down right nasty to get to a supervisor on the 3rd call to find out what the problems was. The supervisor I spoke with got the issue solved and the duplexer on it's way to me but I still can do any duplex printing. I'm running XP as my OS. The Printer Status Report (printed directly from the printer via the face plate) says the duplexer isn't installed and under the print preferences on the computer the options are either off or manual duplexing. At this point I am one very disappointed HP customer. I have spent a month waiting for replacements and at least 14 hours on-line and on the phone trying to get this resolved. If any one out there knows how to get the 709a to recognize the duplexer please share! Is there a firmware download needed or a different driver??? I'm at a loss.

Re: Officejet 6500 Duplex Printing attachment model?

This situation is absolutely unacceptable from someone like HP. Your situation is bad, but when you run the AiO on a Mac it is, to say the least frustrating, because in the spec it states that one can manually duplex, but there is no option to print the odd and even pages separately, so it is impossible. I have always purchased HP but I think this will be my last time. I feel I was hoodwinked.
