Officejet 6500A no automatic fax receive

Brand new, just out of the box Officejet 6500A Plus e-All-in-One E710 n-z does everything beautifully except receive fax automatically.  The display indicates an incoming fax, automatic receive ON, then, nothing.

Manual fax receive OK.

Internal fax tests all OK.

I've been using 1-888-HPFAXME.

Windows 7 64-bit

Re: Officejet 6500A no automatic fax receive

Hello Loves_to_Dance

Have you tried turning Automatic Fax off and then back on? Have you tried adjusting the number of rings before it answers?

Re: Officejet 6500A no automatic fax receive

Thank you for your prompt response.

No, I hadn't tried that but now I will.

Neither turning Automatic Fax off and then back on nor adjusting the number of rings before it answers helped.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks

Re: Officejet 6500A no automatic fax receive

Hello Loves_to_Dance

Are you using a landline, DSL, or Voice over IP (VoIP)? Accordingly there may be different transmission settings that need adjusting.

If you go to Setup -> Fax Setup -> Advanced Fax Setup -> Fax Speed -> try adjusting the settings.

Re: Officejet 6500A no automatic fax receive

Hi, HP worker:

Changing the FAX speed did not enable automatic FAX receive.

My telephone servic is through Comcast Triple Play, wherein my TV,  telephone and internet all come through the cable.

The phone cord from my OfficeJet 6500A is plugged into Touchstone Telephony Modem model TM 722G.

Thoughts?

Thanks

Re: Officejet 6500A no automatic fax receive

Yes, I can fax OK.

I also have the Call Waiting service, so I now give up having the machine answer faxes automatically

Accept as Solution" if it solves your issue.

I would thank you, but I don't see the "Kudos! Star" that you mention.

Hi Loves_to_Dance,

In order to properly diagnose what is happening we need to try this printer on a different phone line to isolate it to the hardware or an issue with the Touchstone Telephony Modem model TM 722G you are currently attempting to use for phone service.

HP printers are designed specifically for use with traditional analog phone services. If you are in a digital phone environment (such as DSL/ADSL, PBX, or ISDN), you might need to use digital-to-analog filters or converters when setting up the printer for faxing.

NOTE: HP does not guarantee that the printer will be compatible with all digital service lines or providers, in all digital environments, or with all digital-to-analog converters. It is always recommended that you discuss with the telephone company directly for the correct setup options based on their line services provided.
