Hi bojangles,
Follow the steps below to get the second tray recognized by the printer. If the printer still doesn't recognize tray 2 after these steps you will need to contact our technical support for additional troubleshooting.
1) Power down the printer
2) Remove 2nd tray.
2) Power up the printer without 2nd tray
3) Power down the printer
4) Install 2nd bin
5) Power up the printer

Hi bojangles,
It appears that the PCA board which joins the tray to the printer may have an issue. You will need to call our technical support at 800-474-6836. If you are in a region other than the US. Click the link below, and then select your region which will supply you with the technical support in your region.

Another poster just helped me with this. You need to COMPLETELY DISENGAGE the bottom tray. Pull it off the whole thing, not just pull out the tray. That made the difference. It's not clear from what's being written to just pull out tray.

Also, after you change it, it doesn't stay. It keeps reverting back to automatic on the paper, and tray 1 on the tray selection. Doesn't keep it after you choose it once. What to do?

Hi Missyrocks,
From the control panel of the printer set tray 2 as the default tray. Open Devices and Printer, and then right click on the printer. Chose printer preferences, and then Device settings tab. Set the trays for the media you have installed into each tray. When you click print from application software it will show automatic select. If you have the trays media types set it will then print from the correct paper tray.

Thank you for getting back to me. My office is at a standstill over these issues. But where do I find the devices and printer? Where do I locate that on the printer menu please? Thank you.

Hi Missyrocks,
For XP it would be printers and faxes. For Vista & Win 7 it would be devices and printers. You can also open the control panel and double click on the printers. Once you are in the printers right click on the printer and go to device setup tab.
