Officejet pro 8500 wireless A909 fatal error during installation 5 times.....no error codes.

Tried installing with CD and downloading software from HP. I have been on chats with five different techs and no solution yet.  HP Solution center is not working, therefore I cannot scan anything.  I have seen a similar post, please Help.  Fatal error log created after install failure says module x:\flash9f.ocx failed to register and install timed out.  I am trying to run this Printer on a dell quad core with vista premium 64-bit and I am using a usb connection.  Serial number on printer is CN0677R0NP.  thanks

Hi there.

Please try the following in order to solve the problem:

Make sure to unplug the usb cable if there is one.

insert the installation cd and browse into the folder - than browse into Util -> CCC -> and run uninstall_l4

after it finishes, restart your pc.

when the pc finishes to reload - go into Control Panel -> Programs and features and remove any HP Software left there

Please make sure that you don't have any other HP software on your pc - if it is HP laptop please do not continue any further and provide me the list so i can guide you how to proceed.

when it's done, restart your pc again - and browse into C:\Program Files and remove any HP and Hewlett-Packard folder

Same under Common files folder (Which is under Program Files)

please repeat those steps under Program Filesx86 too.

after completing those steps, Go to the "Run" window (You can access it by pressing Winkey and R Simultanly (The key with the Windows Logo)

than type %temp% and accept

Please remove all the content inside this folder, and do the same by typing "temp" at the "run" dialog.

make sure to remove all the contact inside those folders.

Now, after we completed to remove any HP software, please update the Flash software by running

c:\windows\system32\macromed\flash\flashutil9b.exe, which will update it to the latest version

If the update fails, please remove Adobe flash from the Programs and Features list, and download the latest flash player from Adobe website.

One last step, Please Re-Register the windows installer service and the atl.dll file by typing in the "Run" Command (As mentioned above) the following commands:

regsvr32 Atl.dll, than approve it when asket for

Msiexec /unregister

Msiexec /regserver

Now reboot your pc and run the installation again from the latest package you have downloaded..

First off...Thanks for your help!   I cannot find macromed folder under systems 32..Only under sysWOW64.  In that folder i do not see the the file you want me to run.  Should I just delete flash9f.ocx since its the one giving me problems??

These are my files in  windows/sysWOW64/macromed/flash:

Just remove Macromedia flash from add / remove and install the latest version from Http://www.macromedia.com

I am able to accomplish everything but

Msiexec /unregister

Msiexec /regserver

When I do these two steps, the screen comes up "unable to access these commands".  I have gone through all the steps you suggested and I still have yet to complete the install.  

Thanks for your help so far.  I have gotten closer than I have been but still have not completed.

Finally able to follow all the instructions you gave including the 

Msiexec /unregister

Msiexec /regserver

I still had the fatal error in the last step of the setup.,  I even tried to install as a network printer and get the same fatal error.

I am really worn out with it.

Is there a particular point at which you receive the Fatal Error? I would suggest trying the following article. At the bottom will be "No, my error does not include a numbered code". If you expand it you will see some problems that may not have codes and it will go through the steps to check event viewer to check for error codes.

It just says "Fatal Error (XP)"  I am unable to find any numbers at all.  I am trying to load the Basic Drivers for the program to see if I can get them to go through.

Please let me know if the basic driver installs. I believe that it may have to with your accounts settings. Is your user account an administrator? Since you were unable to follow the other steps as you indicated above. I would recommend creating a second account on your computer as an administrator and seeing if it will install correctly.

I have the main computer account and one set for me specifically.  I tried installing under both those accounts and I get the same issue.

I have not yet tried the basic drivers install but I will this afternoon.  I believe I am fighting a battle that won't be won.

I do appreciate your help and I will continue to work on it.
