Paper mismatch - HP Officejet 6500A plus

Hello, trying to send out Christmas cards with me new printer.

I use the printer to print envelopes.  

I am continually getting a paper mismatch error.  I have manually set teh software program to 5x7.... and also set the printer for 5x7 envelopes... but no success.  tried with envelope guide set for envelope and set for normal sized paper.  Normal sized paper goes through and prints in the correct area.

Windows XP.

Used to have deskjet 6122 - no problems what so ever.

I had this problem for so long and finally figured it out.  HP was no help except for the suggestion to switch it to "draft" quality.

Depending on your operating system, it will be different...  but basically... get to your printer's preferences ... Click on the "Paper / Quality" tab... and make sure that "Paper Type" (XP) or "Output Quality" (Windows 7) is set to AUTOMATIC.  That's it.  In Windows 7 ... there are a little more steps ... For Windows 7 you might have to go to printing preferences, change media type to plain, click on advanced, and change "Output Quality" to AUTOMATIC.  OH YEA... AND MAKE SURE TO CLICK "APPLY" AND NOT JUST "OK".  It works like a charm.  In Windows 7 The "Quality Settings" will automatically check the "Custom" checkbox when you put it on AUTOMATIC.  That's good... that's the way you want it..  So, the Quality Settings "Custom" checkbox will be checked and you will see that "Normal" is still selected but it is grayed out.  Hope this helps somebody.  I was going to go on HP's site and tell them the same thing since they haven't figured it out yet, but I don't want to make a new account... my hp6500plus does the same thing.it was working great when i got it, then suddenly, it gives me the mismatched paper crap! i cant choose "apply" like you suggested. im gonna throw this thing out the window.

Please ensure media type selected as "plain paper" and quality setting as "normal"

I got it to print the envelope ( no mismatch paper ) but print it the envelope on the wrong spot What Am I doing wrong is an evelope type10

I registered my HP6500A Plus e-All-in-One Printer on 6-18-11. I have been totally saatisfied until yesterday when I began getting "mismatched paper" responses and could not print, except on Advanced Photo Papers and envelopes. I followed a suggestion on a website after Googeling my problem. I followed the advice and it worked. Hope this doesn't occur again because it has taken up so much of my time to figure out. Thanks to the online suggestion. I'm not sure if this is an official HP site or not.

Aside from the above I love the printer.

I have hp oj6500 e709n with windows 7 and word 2010. 

when i go to printing preferences, i can check  the media type to plain, but when i click on 'advanced', it offers 'ink volume' and 'dry time' as options; nothing about 'output quality'.  the features tab offers a 'print quality' selection in which i can select 'automatic'.  but when i select these selections, i still cannot print an envelope without a paper mismatch error.
