Photosmart 3310 All-In-One - registry error upon trying to install

First of all, I'm running Windows Vista Home 32-bit Premium SP1. Internet Explorer 7.

When I first purchased this printer a few months ago, I had no trouble installing it and was using the printer wirelessly without problems. For some reason, it stopped working. I contacted HP Support and they asked me to uninstall the software and then try to reinstall it. Well, upon running the installation CD, I get the following error:

The installer cannot access this registry key. Please ensure that the installer has access to the registry and click Retry to continue installation
Registry Key;
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum
Manufacturer: Microsoft
The 'Enum' registry key was not there so I created it. There were three more errors and creating the registry key fixed those three errors but not this one.
I've searched all over the Internet and simply can not find a fix for this. I found one instance of someone experiecing the same problem but they never got it fixed.
I'm always logged in with Administrator access, Ive cleaned out all temp files, HP has sent me the latest installation CD, I've installed all WindowsUpdates, etc.
Any clue whatsoever on what I can try next?

The Enum key was not there??? how is that possible that it's not there and your PC is working fine? i believe it has very important info bout your OS, without which it wont work properly?!

ill wait till someone else replies to this... hopefully.

I cannot scan. When I run the HP utility ScanDiagnosticUtility_ver_1.5.exe

I am told that there is a registry mismatch. Help!
