Hi. I ended up returning the printer in the end as I could not resolve the issue. I think there is some tolerance for skew in all printers but 2 to 3mm is far too much. I think the problem is quite commin but is rarely noticed. I now have a LaserJet CP1525NW, it had a similar problem by around 1mm, but once I got laser specific paper, it went down to around 0.5mm which is acceptable I guess. Let me know how you get on!

The engineering team is addressing the issue, but in the mean time:
- Pull out the paper tray and adjust width adjust/paper guide to fit media.
- Then, push in tray from center of tray.

I gave up in the end and got a refund. I now have a LasetJet CP1525NW and that is better, but its also skewed by just under 1mm!! AM thinking to go Canon now.

I received my brand new 5510 yesterday and it too prints with a slight skew. Couple of mms horizontally and vertically. Is this due to a cartridge alignment issue, a paper alignment issue, or something else?
Glad to know that engineering is looking into the issue. Appreciate any help you can provide.

Ok I will share my thoughts, don't know if your "engineers" found something or not, since I didnt find any message related with that issue. Anyway the problem isn't anything special in printer, not even the paper they use. The problem is related with the mechanism that adjust the paper size. In the past printer (also hp psc series) the mechanism was more tighter if I can say that. In this one and probably the newer version the mechanism that needed to adjust paper size is a bit loose. For this reason we get misalignment. So conclusion would be to squeeze that mechanism as hard as you can after you insert the paper. This probably will be needed to do all the times when you change the paper. Or second solution would be to take a look at down side of the printer and maybe there are some screws or something that can help us to tighten that mechanism.
So I am waiting for replay from support what can be done in this situation or should I return the printer as all the customers did before me? Because this surely looks like factory fault and there's risk that even if I squeeze mechanism hard enough it can again misadjust during the printing process. Also what's with the sound my old psc 1210 that was 5 years old was more quiet then this one.

I have the same problem, bought my printer in october, returned it and got a new one in december, same problem with that one. I am going to return it once more, if it's still a problem it's a manufacturing batch problem and I'm going to get my money back.
Just hate wasting my time dealing with this.

To all those having problems with miss-alignment in printing OR print alignment failing here's what worked for me after trying everything under the sun.
Ensure that you load your paper tray to the maximum where the guiders can brace the edges tightly and the top page fits under the lip / flange on the guider.
With a larger wad of paper in the scanning of the alignment page worked first time and I could see that it had printed straight.

I just purchased this printer and I am having the same alignment problem. The awkward "resolution" to this type of problem is nonsensical. The only correct solution is to return the defective product and go to another manufacturer who might have what was once known as "quality control". Considering the number of complaints identifying this issue, news of this newfangled management technique known as "quality control" has not yet reached the manufacturing arm of HP

Good evening,
I bought this Hp 5510 all-in-one model in December and now I can say I am really disappointed. I tried the printer at home the first time and the alignment never came out ok. No way I could fix the problem. The hardware looked ok to me at a first sight but 2-3mm skew of the paper was too much, absolutely unacceptable for any kind of print.
I contacted Hp support and they got back to me quickly. I did all the tests and fixes they suggested, but no change happened. I sent them a scanned sample of the prints and they decided to replace the printer, saying it was a problem in the hardware.
Now I got the new one and know what?Same problem as you all have. The paper slides in non-aligned and the print doesn't come out straight. I didn't know what to think. At the end I just pulled of the paper tray and discovered that the 2 plastic wings that keep the paper "hold" are NOT aligned at all.Looks like they were bad assembled in both printers I have. One in particular is not aligned to the tray at all, there is a 2-3 mm space and that is exactly the same skew I got on the paper.
I don't really know if Hp engineers are doing something or just underestimate the problem, but this is going to be SO BAD for Hp. It's their new printer and it's not able to print straight?C'mon, what are we talking about?
I always had an hp printer and never ever experienced such problems.It is unacceptable.
I really hope they're fixing this, I payed for my new printer more than a month ago and still I found myself without a working one.
I wanna thank all the guys at the customer care for trying to help, but Hp engineers please fix this or a lot of people are going to complaint about it. No good at all.
