- Unplug the telephone line from the router
- Turn the power off on the router, wait 30 seconds, then turn the power back on.
- Go through the normal process of connecting the printer to the router.
- Now find the IP address of the printer (it should be on the self-test printout), type it into a browser.
- On that screen you will find a Networking Tab, then on the left Wireless, then the IPv4 Tab.
- On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). If you know what that is, set an IP outside that range but no higher than 254 (the last number in the address). If you do not know, use the current IP address.
- Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)
- Leave the gateway and DNS blank
- Finally, plug in the phone line, reboot the router and test.

ok, am not getting anywhere here!
have tried unplugging all parts of router - as soon as put power back in router and turn printer on all lights flash and it says switch off and on again, and when you do it says it again . . . . and again . . . . and again
have tried unplugging printer and plugging in again and it still does it when router has power
when router has no power it seems to be happy - not very helpful for setting up wifi connection
please can you help me again

This seems to be a known glitch with the HP B110a printer's firmware. The printer will crash on startup, if it has Wireless setting enabled. BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) on a printer? Maybe painless e-convergence is just a whimsical dream.
The blinking-light error looks like some kind of incompatibility with the DHCP setting on the wireless router/modem. This seems to be a very common issue with this new printer B110a, and so far HP hasn't released any fix update or given any detailed workaround on their support pages. I've also had issues with installing the printer on my computer using the USB cable.
To mitigate the blinking error, switch on the printer, and as soon as the main menu comes up, do the following:
1. Quickly press the Wireless/ePrint button (thin, long button next to the power button, below the LCD)
Alternatively, you can use the Wireless menu from Preferences menu
(white dash button on bottom left of LCD, icon is a wrench/spanner).
2. Select Wireless Setting.
3. Scroll down, and select Disable Wireless.
4. If you have installed the USB printer drivers on your computer, then you can now print safely from the computer.
Otherwise, continue to next step.
5. Go back to main menu and shut down the printer using the power switch.
6. Place the Printer CD in the computer, and install/setup the USB drivers and HP software.
7. Switch ON the printer and connect the USB cable, only when the setup prompts you to do so.
DO NOT CONNECT USB CABLE WITHOUT INSTALLING THE PRINTER DRIVERS FROM THE CD.
If you do so, then Windows fails to install the driver and it shows up as an unrecognized USB device.
This problem can be very difficult to resolve, so be careful.
8. Once the setup is complete, you can print/scan with the printer using the USB connection to the computer.
If you need to make the wireless work, then you need to set the printer to use a manual IP address. PrintDoc has outlined the basic solution above. Also see this thread containing a bit more detailed solution (also partial) by gardz:
My wireless router gets the default IP address of 192.168.1.2, so I've set the printer's IP address to 192.168.1.10 with the subnet mask as 255.255.255.0 with the gateway and DNS server as 192.168.1.2. After making these settings, I am able to wirelessly connect to my router, and can print/scan to/from it with my computer. I have also installed the Product Updates from the printer preferences.
The Wireless/ePrint button (next to Power button) can tell you at a glance about the wireless setting:
LED light ON (blue light, stable) = Wireless enabled and working
LED light FLASHING (blue light, flashing/blinking) = Wireless enabled, but not working (check the settings)
LED light OFF (color is gray) = Wireless disabled
Click on the Wireless/ePrint button to see the printer's IP address and WiFi signal strength. Try the Run Network Wireless Test in the Wireless menu, to get a report that shows the IP Address, SSID (WiFi connection name), Authentication type, etc to help setup the wireless connectivity.
But I still get the BSOD and printer error with blinking lights, if I switch on the printer when wireless was enabled. That is why I said the solution given by PrintDoc and gardz is partial. Even after the wireless connectivity is made to work, the printer crashes with the blinking lights, when it is started later.
So, to summarize, the workaround is to always Disable Wireless before shutting down the printer, and enable it from the Preferences menu, only when you need to print or scan. If you have the USB connection working and don't need to use the printer remotely, then you can safely disable the Wireless in the printer preferences.
I have escalated to the HP tech support, but they weren't able to fix the issue (they told me to clean the printer head, which even they know is not the solution). They have made a note of my complaint, and a technician will come to help with the issue, so let me see what he says. I will provide updates if the BSOD-blinking-lights problem is permanently resolved.
Those who find that the printing is slow, can change the printer properties in Windows, to use the Fast Draft profile. The default profile is General Everyday Printing, which is better quality, but slow.
The B110a has a few nice apps (including daily updated Sudoku puzzles!) which need wireless connectivity and you can use the ePrint features by registering with the HP ePrintCenter (http://h30495.www3.hp.com/). I love these cloud enabled services, and I like the print quality, so I do not think I have made a mistake in buying this printer. Let's hope HP releases a firmware patch and driver update to fix the wireless issues soon.

Make sure you printer is set to static IP address that lies within your gateway's subnet as explained above. If you can connect to your printer from IE/Firefox using the static IP address (say http://192.168.1.3) to get to the printer webserver admin dashboard, then the printer connectivity is done, and you can configure it as per your needs from that admin dashboard.
Once that is done, you may need to do a hard reset of your modem/router, so that it goes back to dynamic IP address to connect to your ISP, and it can act as gateway again. I know all these steps can be hard for non-techies to follow, but reach out to technical support (toll-free) guys if you still get stuck. Keep this page (and related pages) handy while talking to them.
Unfortunately for us, a great printer has been shipped by HP with absolutely unintelligent drivers and software. Lots of people are facing issues with the wireless setup.
Maybe the adage is true: too many eggs in one basket......
