Photosmart C4385 driver install Runtime Error

I run windows 7 32 bit and have run this very printer before from this operating system.

I uninstalled my HP Photosmart C4385 at the beginning of the summer.

When I wanted to use it again recently, I plugged in my printer and it did not successfully connect.  On the Devices and Printers page, it displays the printer as "Printer, Scanner, Copier" and will ask me to troubleshoot.

The troubleshooting tells me that HP PHotosmart C4380 series does not have a driver.

Usually it connects without a driver, but I went to the website to download the driver anyways.

I installed the 312mb file.  Then I double click to extract (as both administrator and not) and get the same error all the time.

"Runtime Error!

Program: C:\Users\(Me)\AppData\Local\Temp\7zS6418(changes everytime)\Setup.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unsual way.

Please contact the application's support team for more information."

I did contact an HP rep:  chat id: 3852265 Frederick

It was a terrible waste of time as he told me how to use the control panel to uninstall HP applications that weren't there and insisted they were.

So I went through the registry and carefully followed instructions as to which HP parts of the registry I needed to remove.

Then I used CCleaner a couple of times.  Restarting throughout the process.

My HP printer still doesn't work.  I need assistance to install the necessary drivers and get my printer up and running again.  Otherwise I will abandon this by Sunday and buy a Cannon or Lexmark.

Re: Photosmart C4385 driver install Runtime Error

Hi,

I had the same problem (runtime error with Microsoft Visual C++ library) using Vista (x64), OfficeJet Pro 8500, here is what I did:

1, uninstalled all HP products

2, removed all the HP services manually

3, downloaded and run the HP scrubber (v14)

4, run CCleaner (v3.05) (http://www.piriform.com/CCLEANER)

5, restart

6, I had version 14 of the installer (OJP8500vA909_Full_14.exe)

7, unpacked it to a directory

8, it had an error relating the missing HP service

9, found and run two msi packages (\setup\devicediscovery\DeviceDiscovery.msi and \setup\network64\Network64.msi)

10, executed setup.exe (\setup\setup.exe)

Everything seemed fine until the step 10/12 (removing unnecessary components...) when the installer crashed. It was the HPZscr40.exe.

After debugging I got this error:

Unhandled exception at 0x000007fefed425d9 (advapi32.dll) in HPZscr40.exe: 0xC00000FD: Stack overflow.

and the stack trace was the following:

advapi32.dll!HandleToKeyName()  + 0x39 bytes

advapi32.dll!Wow64RegOpenKeyEx()  + 0xe0 bytes

advapi32.dll!RegOpenKeyExInternalA()  - 0x9ee9 bytes

I am not sure if this matters, but I have the MS C++ library 2010 (x64) installed (http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=14632).

It's very disappointing that there is always something wrong HP software.

Anyway, I hope it helps someone, and someday they will fix this.

Re: Photosmart C4385 driver install Runtime Error

Finally I could install the drivers, my printer still doesn't work, but it might be my network configuration.

So, additionally to my previous post, I

- disabled my anti-virus's resident shield

- on the screen where you need to agree to the terms and conditions

    selected the option to customise the installed components

    and removed everything, except

      HP Officejet Pro 8500

      HP Imaging Device Functions

      HP Document Manager

      OCR Software by IRIS

- enabled the resident shield again

That's it. Please someone tell me what is more than 600MBs in HP Update :smileyhappy: Ridiculous...
