Photosmart C4580 - Fatal Error during installation [ Edited ]

Today I received my AIO printer and expected (based on all the reviews on the product) that it would be an easy install and setup.  NOT THE CASE!! I am going out of my mind and have gotten NO help from HP Tech Support on this problem, even after 2 online sessions and one phone session.  I know it is a DLL problem and one tech even tried to tell me that it was my installation CD and he would mail me a new one. 

I get about 20% of the way through the installation of the software (with CD and download) and get a "fatal error" message that says this:

I have tried uninstalling, shutting down, and reinstalling from both the CD and from a download and get the exact same error message each time.  Can someone PLEASE PLEASE help???

While waiting for an answer here, I decided to search other threads and found an answer that worked by Andreas Rosenberg.... As soon as I registered the dll mentioned below I was able to install the software.  Just wanted to post here so others who might be having the same problem could have an answer that might work for them too!!

The reason for the mentioned error is a missing or invalid registration of ATL.DLL.

1.) check if ATL.DLL exists in your WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 directory. If it is missing you must obtain it.

2.) register the ATL.DLL with: "Start|Run" and enter "regsvr32 C:\WINDOWS\system32\atl.dll".

Retry to install the printer software.

Tried registering atl.dll as well. But the printer still give me the fatal error during installation error.

Pls help.

I'm having a similar problem with my printer at home and have had prblems with the hp one in work. I'd suggest taking it back and asking for your money back. Then do as I have done and make sure you NEVER EVER buy hp **bleep** again. Simples.

I was 2 nano seconds from taking mine back just because I couldn't understand anything the 2 customer service agents said.  I got so angry because of the language barrier that I hung up on the last one - he called me back and told him not to ever call my phone and hung up again - he called me back again - I just let it ring ... I think I was being stalked by a customer service agent  

That's why I chose to fix it myself.  HP can only be as good as their customer service and as long as it is being outsourced to India so they can save money by paying cheap wages the problems will continue.  I will never buy another HP product.

I checked and have a registered atl.dll in the system32 directory. This is a total waste of time - it's 4am. I'm so furious I want to spit.

Anyone work at HP here - I'm ready to return the printer I bought today c4580 - software/drivers won't install - neither from CD or download. This is a critical marketing error. One good way to destroy customer confidence - can't use the product, can't find out if it's worth the trouble. Ready to go back to Epson. Who needs a company that suggests I pay 8p per minute to help get a printer set up - that shouldn't have had a problem to begin with. Maddening.

If the manual registration of the atl.dll file did not help resolve the issue, you can try the the following:

-From the CD of the c4580 go to "\Util\CCC\uninstall_2.bat" and  "\Util\CCC\uninstall_3.bat" and run them one at a time. Then you can take out the CD for the meantime.

-Download the Full Feature Driver for the photosmart printers here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-62152-3&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&...

-Run the downloaded installer and go for the "advanced" installation.

-If you get to the part which is asking you for the software to include, have only the HP Solution Center 12.0 and the HP Imaging Device Function 12.0 selected (just leave the one that says "required" as is.)

-If it will ask you what type of connection, choose "USB" but tick the option to "connect the device later" and finish the installation.

-Put the CD back in for your printer and hit install. Go for the "advanced installation" and make sure that the HP Solution Center and the HP Imaging Device Functions softwares are not selected and leave the rest of them unchecked except the "required" driver software. Finish the installation.

Have spent 4 hours trying to load software for C4585 and get getting MSI.DOT4wrp error Followed al advice on HP website re this error (all five solutions) none worked  Followed the advice in this post (atl.dll) and worked beautifully Thanks so much

This will solve your dll file problem. as I registered few dls from this site as it is free...worked in my case.
