Photosmart C4588 installation issue

I bought a HP Photosmart C4588 recently and was trying to install the same on my laptop. When the installation reaches 96%, it tries to configure the printer and then exits giving 'Fatal Error during installation'. Might have installed the software from cd and disk almost 12 to 15 times.

 

Tried multiple means to resolve the same but to no avail. Can someone please help? The following things have already been tried.

 

a. Stopped windows automatic updates.

b. Stopped all initial programs in the startup using msconfig.

c. registered atl.dll file using resvr32 command.

d. unregistered and registered using msiexec /unreg and msiexec /regserver

 

Unable to reach HP tech support as well. pls guide. I have windows xp with service pack 3 as operating system

Please mention the exact error message. You can try to add the exceptions in the firewall.
