It seems somewhere along the process of installing my new C4780 something went wrong. I went thru the entire install process and the only issue was with connecting to the network. Now, the touchscreen on the all-in-one is 'stuck' on the blue HP loading screen, it's moving but it never changes to the menu screen that was once there. HELP!

Its a firmware bug we are working on. Until a fix is issued, you can try something that has helped some (but not all).
Change the length of your network name (SSID). If it is now 6 characters (is it?), change it to 10 or 12. You will have to re- login all devices on the network and it may not fix the problem, but its worth a try.

What you can do is you can also change the encryption from WPA-TKIP to WPA- AES or make it to WEP.
After that switch off the printer and switch it on again. Try to connect now after changing the "Encryption". This will likely resolve the issue.

My advice is to never, under any circumstances, use WEP.
Read more about it here.

I am having the same problem with the same printer (C4780). My network name is also 6 letters long. I tried to change the name to 7 letters, but I cant get the printer to accept the changes. I turn the printer on and plug it into a computer with USB (even though the loading screen is still visible) and try to reinstall it with the new network settings. But unlike the first setup, it won't ask me to copy the computer network settings. Instead it asks me to select a SID. I tried to type in the new SID, but got an error that it couldn't find the wi-fi network. I know the signal is strong. The printer is currently setup just feet from the modem.
Is their a way to change/disable the wi-fi network and/or reset the printer to factory settings without using the touchscreen? I think by doing this, I can at least get the touchscreen to load again.
Some side notes.
From the computer, I can print directly just fine. The printer will only work when connected and not over the network which is something I really need. Also because the touchscreen never loads. I cant make copies. This seems like strange behavior because I can print from the computer while the printer (touchscreen) is still loading?
Any suggestions? How did you fix the problem before?

Change the SSID more radically - like 10 or 12 letters.

I had this same problem. Froze two printers up trying to install them on the family network. Found this thread and changed the SSID to 13 characters and the installation went as advertised. Not a particularly happy customer, but I figured I would register and reply to as many of these threads as I can find to help spread the word.

Hello everyone,
I'm happy to announce that a FW update has been delivered and is available for download on the Photosmart C4700 series SW & Driver download page! You can get there by following this link.
I've installed the update on 2 different printers and I've been able to recover them both. I had to run the update a few times on the 2nd printer, but it eventually took. So, stick with it and let me know how it goes.
These instructions can also found on the SW & Driver download page...
Important: this solution only applies to units with Serial Number # CN018xxxxx or later.
Installation Instructions
Before downloading the Firmware update, please verify that you have a working software installation of the device.
Please Note: If your printer is installed using a wireless network and the printer is currently not responding with the HP Logo displayed on the front panel, please connect your printer to the computer using a USB cable before proceeding.
Installation steps
1. Download the firmware update to an appropriate location on your system.
2. Double click on the downloaded file to start the extraction and installation.
3. In Windows Vista or Windows 7, you will be prompted to enter Administrator credentials if your login privileges do not have administrator rights. If you are an administrator, you will be prompted for permission to continue with the installation. Please select to continue the installation.
4. Follow on-screen instructions to perform the installation. If you see the following screen at the end of the installation, your firmware update is complete. Press the "OK" button to finish the update.
Please Note: The update should take less than 5 minutes to complete. On rare occasions, this update process may freeze for long periods displaying the screen shown below.
If the update process appears to be frozen displaying the screen shown above for more than 5 minutes, proceed to step 6 shown below.
6. Turn off your printer by disconnecting the printer from the A/C power outlet.
7. Reconnect your printer back to the A/C power outlet.
8. Your printer will restart. After restart, the firmware update will be complete.
You may also see one of the following 3 screens during this update process on rare occasions. If you see any one of the screens below, please follow the additional steps shown at the e
9. When any screen showing a "Try Again" button is displayed, press the "Cancel" button on the screen, if this button is enabled. If the "Cancel" button is not enabled, proceed to step 10 below.
10. Turn off your printer by disconnecting the printer from the A/C power outlet.
11. Reconnect your printer back to the A/C power outlet.
12. Your printer will restart. After restart, the firmware update will be complete.

Do not take your Photosmart C4780 to the dump or back to the store.
Thanks everyone for your help with this Printer Issue and for Firmware UPDATE.
My Photosmart C4780 was permanently stuck at the start-up screen after trying to set up wireless networking with it too.
Changing the SSID or encryption on the Wifi router did nothing.
I downloaded the FIRMWARE UPDATE for my printer from HP.COM's support and drivers page. Ran the update with the printer ON and plugged into my computer via USB, and then unplugged the printer and plugged it back in after update finished and BOOYA! its working again!
Thanks alot HP. Saved the day.
P.S. the firmware update took a while, so be patient.
