I've successfully installed the Photosmart 309a software suite. Everything works, including scanning. So what's the problem?
Since installing, about once an hour a giant Error! window pops up with the message:
"The scanning software was launched with improper command line arguments"
Under "Extended information" is the string:
8,[(-1,0,0)]
So it appears that some process related to this printer install (since this never happened before), about once an hour, is calling the scanning software with "improper command line arguments".
Can anyone help identify the caller, and figure out how to tell it to quit calling the scanning software?
Oh yes, around the time each error box appears I get the yellow popup in the lower right corner saying "C309a is disconnected" followed shortly thereafter by another popup saying "C309a is connected." But I don't know if this is a cause, or an effect.
EDIT: Forgot to add: Windows XP SP2, AMD Athlon 2700, 1 GB RAM. HP CUE Device Discovery service tried both in OFF and ON mode, no change.
Thanks!

Hi,
Do you have the product on network or connected with USB cable ? If on network, what other devices are involved. There is a distinct chance of flaky wireless or firewall interrupting the communication between PC and printer. Please provide some more details on the environment and we should be able to eliminate the cause.
Thanks

Hi,
The problem has gone away, with the third or fourth re-install of the software. However, when I was getting the message the printer was connected by a wired (not wireless) cable, and there were no firewalls active on the machine.

I have reinstalled several times both from the disk and by downloading the driver from HP but the problem persists. I also tried using the XP-64 bit version which works but gives me the same error. Is there any help from HP on this issue? The error messages are preventing me from putting the machine into Sleep.

Good news and bad news..
The good news....
1) Using the HP uninstall process, I uninstalled my a909n driver and software, as well as my HP K 8600 printer driver.
2) Rebooted, reinstalled the a909n software, but the wireless driver, not the USB driver this time.
The wireless installation process worked flawlessly and the first time.
3) Rebooted, and the error message did not reappear. The printer had worked fine since then and the error message is gone.
The bad news.....
1) Reinstalled my K 8600 printer driver, which uses a wired network connection, rebooted, and the error message reappeared.
The K 8600 is just a printer, not an MFP that scans.
Therefore, the HP Solution Center software may have issues.
At least we are making progress, I think.
Will update this until we can solve it.

I too have a K8600n. I noticed this error on my HP Pavillion XP MEdia Centre machine at boot up and noticed this error after I installed the new HP Solution Centre. Ver 130.0.44.62
I also have a Photosmart C5580 of which I recently updated the software via the HP Site.
As a side note HP did not know how to assist. if fact they wasted almost 5 hours of my time. Being self employed, this is costing me big time. I noticed that tyring to install an HP J6480 along with the C5580 is never successful. Tried multiple unistallsa nd re-installs.
I finally uninstalled ALL my HP stuff, related to printers and now am back to my orignal too printers that work well together except for the ERROR above. (2 days)
I agree with RNR. It looks like a HP SOlution Centre porblem along with the K 8600n.

Just for the record it occurred with me after installing solution center 130.0.44.62 from a C309a printer install
so it is not a printer specific error message - just a solution center 13 problem
why on earth HP cant at least accept this is as software problem is beyond me
