As the "Subject" states, my printer will not scan. Instead of showing the computer when choosing scan, it says "Try starting scan from computer. Refer to documentation for details." I have tried using HP Solution Center, but it tells me that the device (Printer) installation is not complete. I have attempted to complete the install, but the printer is not found.
Also, when using "Add a device", I get an error message that says "The printer cannot be found on your wireless network." I know that it is connected to the network. I can access the Internet from the Display Panel.
I would appreciate any help you can give me.

HI,
Go to www.hp.com/go/tools and download the HP network diagnostic utility. I might show you where the problem is.

Parcardje, thanks for the prompt reply. I actually did use the Network Diagnostic Utility. It didn't help at all. It gave me several alternatives, but none worked.

OK
What was wrong according to the tool?
Can you reach the internal page of the printer by typing in the ip adres of the printer in your browser?

It most likely will, if not let me know.

On a very new Win7 64 bit laptop I intalled and uninstalled the software several times.
Instructions are exceedingly poor.
First action is to connect the printer wirelessly before downloading software onto your PC.
PC could not find printer and later could not find scanner. Printer could not send a scanned file to the computer.
Finally I installed the very bare minimum of the choices which are available at the start of the download - and very certainly AVOIDED downloading the Solution Centre which kept failing to find some drivers when I tried to scan or copy.
Strangely Solutions Centre was partly downloaded anyway but not the troublesome part.
First I set up the printer connected to a USB. When connecting the USB a whole lot of printer drivers are downloaded, I think from the internet . Then I used the Solution Centre to copy and scan - which brought up the HP scanning software and it worked. The printer's touchpad also then worked storing a scanned document on the computer.
I then went to the Start menu - USB to Wireless - and went through the procedures. In the Devices and Printers I ended up with two HP printers - one wireless and one USB. The second part was beset with problems. I used the HP diagnostic tools (which I downloaded) and the Windows Troubleshooter in the Control panel. You leave the USB cable attached for almost the whole procedure until it tells you to disconnect. If you don't see that command then keep up with troubleshooting and diagnostics. Repeat the USB to Wireless process. Finally the wireless printer works . Using the Solution Centre and switching between the two printers in the Home page all scanning and copying using HP software was ultimately a success.
What a shambles. I expect like any normal human to buy some kit which works straight off like my old 990C did years ago. Today's management is idle.
Next testing is to take out the cartridges and then put them back in again.

No problem with testing the cartridges.
I wonder if my solution above was helpful.

Nomaster, I am terribly sorry that I didn't answer sooner. I simply got the printer to work and didn't come back to my thread. I am now having the same problem, so I am trying your solution. I will let you know what happens.

Well, here is an update that might help other members in the future.
I finally got my computer to connect through my wireless and actually scan from the printer. What was the problem?
I had my computer connected to the network using a Cisco AM10 adapter. It had its own Mac address. The printer connected to the network with a different Mac address. The error message that I received was that my printer and computer were connected to different networks; not true. However, since the AM10 had its own Mac address it was concidered a network. This problem was solved by connecting the commputer with a network cable. Once this was solved, the printer didn't want to connect to my computer because of my AV. So, I disabled it and it worked perfectly. Now, I will have to open the appropriate port to allow communication.
