Re: Printer not detected during setup

OK, Have now upgraded my Belkin to a the new N router. Still not joy connecting the wireless printer to my PC. Seems I will have to live with the USB cable and the kids will have to use my PC is they want to print anything. Wish I never had brought the printer in the first place as juding by this string I am not the only one suffering.

Re: Printer not detected during setup

I have been unable to read thoroughly all previous posts (apologize) but it looks like most of them are related to wireless connections,

My problem is more basic: I cannot install the printer even with the USB. This is the setup:

HP Photosmart B109

Sony VAIO

Windows Vista

I follow all the steps of the installation, but when I connect the USB cable, the printer is not detected and my USB mouse hangs. So I guess it is a problem with USB ports, I have tried deleting the INFCACHE.1 file, updating everything... but no result.

Any help will be appreciated.

Miguel

PS. Just a "silly" question: has the Photosmart a stand-alone configuration menu like good old Laserjets? No, I see... :smileysad:

Re: Printer not detected during setup

[ Edited ]

I'm not sure what's going on with the USB setup method so let's manually install the printer.

Part #1 -  Restore the B109's network configuration:

.

  1. From the printer's front panel, press Scan
  2. Select Wireless Menu
  3. If you have WPS on your wireless N router, then select WPS and then select Push Button.  Now press the WPS button on your wireless-router.  Now skip to Part #3 below
  4. If you don't have WPS on your wireless N router, select Wireless Settings
  5. Select Restore Network Defaults.  Select Yes to the warning.
  6. Select Enable Radio
.
.
Part #2 - Get the printer on your network

.

  1. Using a wireless laptop, connect to the wireless network called hpsetup that the printer are created.
  2. Print out the Network Configuration Page from the printer (the selection is under Wireless Settings).  Open the printer's internal web page by browsing to its IP address.
  3. From the printer's web page, select Networking then Wireless (802.11).  Now select Start Wizard.
  4. Select your network, press Next, enter your key, press Next and then Finish.
As the printer connects to your home network, you'll lose the connection to the printers web page.  Reconnect your laptop to your home network.  Verify that the printer is on the home network -- print out the Network Configuration Page again and open the printer's internal web page by browsing to its new IP address.

.

.

Part #3 - Install the SW on the computer
.
If you haven't done so already, download the printer driver from here and run the setup program.  You won't need the USB cable as the printer is already on the network.

Re: Printer not detected during setup

Thanks, Jim. I missed the default network configuration. Some day I will find out what's going on with USB ports... I hope that Vista will have disappeared off the face of the earth by then :smileywink:

Re: Printer not detected during setup

What model printer do you have?

What model wireless-router do you have?

Re: Printer not detected during setup

It's amazing that after 10 years of being a tech I didn't look at the hidden devices in the device manager. Removing the device did the trick. Install now see's the device across the network for me as well.

Thanks for the tip!

Re: Printer not detected during setup

select, network mode----------network settings----------IPV6------------disable

I would strongly recommend setting up your printer with a static  ip 192.168.1.200
