I have a HP Photosmart Premium 309c printer. I was so excited when I got this printer, but it has been nothing by trouble. It is currently setup as a network printer, but I have set it up via USB as well. The current OS is windows 7. I have had this hooked up to 2 different machines, and one was an XP box. I've added a static mapping to my router to make sure the IP doesn't change.
Regularly the printer will just stop printing. It will add things to the queue, but won't print them. I got through the motions of rebooting everything. When that doesn't work then I go in and delete the print queue, and reboot. Again nothing. I usually end up having to remove the device and add it again. Which is fine and works however, then none of the advanced features work. Like scaning to computer. If I want that stuff to work again I have to go through the full install process with the disc like when I first got it. Frankly, I am SOOO done with is!

I would suggest trying the HP Print Diagnostic Utility and the HP Home Network Diagnostic Utility. Both can be found under the Utility section by following the first link below.
Are you using wireless? If so the following article may help. It should still be useful even if you are hard wired.
