Re: Printer will not print

Hello grannypat

I located a post by Bob_Headrick that explains a problem with the print spooler crashing with older Deskjet printers. I notice the Deskjet 820 is listed there and the patch may resolve your print queue issue. I was not able to locate the patch you had mentioned in your first post but this sounds like what you were looking for/talking about. Read the first post for details.

Deskjet 710/720/810/820/1000 Series printers - Patch for 64 bit Vista and Windows 7

I also found a different thread by a user with the same printer from back in 2010. He too had to get a different adapter to get it to work.

Re: Printer will not print

Hi, Travis,

I'm sorry about the delay in replying.  I did not see your "page 2" of the email.  I have printed out the instructions and am keeping your email with the patch links until my son comes down on Sunday. He knows more about computers than I do.  I don't want to sound stupid, but I've never done any of these types of things and I'm a bit scared about downloading the patch and exactly where it goes, even with the instructions.  Granny is not just a code name...it's real.  I didn't know if I could just save it to the desktop and then open and unzip it to the correct sections or if I had to follow the instructions exactly.  I'm not sure where all of these areas are and some of the terms are not familiar to me.

As soon as we do this on Sunday, I will email you back with the results.  I truly appreciate all your assistance and I promise if his works you'll get boo-coo kudos!

Thanks so much...talk to you soon.

Re: Printer will not print

Hi, Travis,

Well....IT WORKS!!!!!  Thank you so much for researching this problem.  It's been awhile, but today, it works.

I do want to pass along some information regarding this patch.  My son, who works in IT at his job, but is "self-taught" found a shorter way to load the patch.

We went to the patch, and clicked twice.  My computer asked whether to open or save or save as.  I saved as in my downloads.  I then opened the 820 file, and copied it.  I went to the C: and found System 32.  Double click and go to Spooler.  Double click and go to any white area and paste.

It was magic.

Thank you again so much.  Kudos, Kudos, Kudos!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Regards,

GrannyPat
