Printing problem with new

I purchased on dec 9th, 2009,  a HP p6232 running Window 7 (64bit) -  I connected a USB parallel adapter for my printer HP LaserJet 4L, and it prints the test page just fine, but nothing else.  The diagnostic says "printer working properly", yet it does not print any documents, just the test page over and over.   I'm a beginner at these tasks, so please be kind to me if you have a solution to help me with this issue,.  I love this old printer, it has always worked like a charm and I would like to continue using it.   With my other PC HP S6220 running XP it was never an issue.   I would appreciate any suggestions. Thank you.

What brand of USB adapter did you get?

Hi 8lives- thank you for replying.  I bought from radio shack a "gigaware 26-184.
