Hi Marc,
Follow the steps below to check the WIA Service:
1. Type services.msc in run or search program and files
2. Scroll down to the WIA Windows Image Acquisition
3. Make sure that this service is running. Click Stop, and then Restart to make sure
4. Restart the computer
Restart the Dependencies services:
1. Click on Start, in Search box type “services” without quotes.
2. Scroll down until you see Windows Image Acquisition (WIA).
3. Double click on it and go to the tab called Dependencies.
4. 2 services should be listed.
5. Exit that window and look for Remote Procedure Call (RPC).
6. Make sure it’s on manual or if it is on Auto, just leave it. Make sure the service is started though.
7. Go to Shell Hardware Detection and Double click.
8. Set the Start up Type as Manual and hit Apply.
9. You should be able to Start the service by hitting Start.
10. Now you are done and the Twain Manager should be working and not give you an error.
Check dependencies or sub dependencies:
Right click on WIA (Windows Imaging Acquisition) selecting first properties and then the dependencies tab. It should list: Remote Procedure Call RPC and Shell Harward Detection
Under RPC it will then list DCOM Service Process Launcher and RPC Endpoint Mapper Go back to the main services.msc list and then right click and start all the items listed as dependencies or sub dependencies under WIA

Hi Marc,
Do you have the same issue when the printer is connected USB?

I have only used the printer via the wireless network in my home. My former printer, the HP 7780 OJ pro, wouldn't scan to the computer either, so I always scanned to a memory devise then moved that to my computer. I was hoping that the new printer would work as advertised.

Hi Marc,
That sounds like you have an issue with your operating system. Have you considered backing up your data, and then do a full system recovery on the computer?

No, but I have considered trying a different brand of printer! ;-) It would be a real chore to do a OS re-install, and I'd like to avoid that.

Hi Marc,
If you had this issue before this printer then that indicates there is an issue within the operating system on your computer. You may want to consider backing up your data, and then reinstall the printer once you have successfully completed the full system recovery.

I also have a brand new IMac Desktop computer and have been using my new HP printer for a couple of months now. That all seems to be working but I just tried to use my scanner and it gave me an "software installation failed" when going into System preferences, print and scan and accessing "open Scanner". I am currently using my WIFI feature. Can you please help?
Thanks heaps!!

Hi HBen,
Try the steps below, and let me know if you still experience issues?
Set computer name
- Go to System Preferences
- Open the Sharing Folder
- Under Computer Name: Verify a “Computer Name” is entered here.
- If a computer name is not entered here, create and add your computer name here.
- Restart the MAC and run the HP Setup Assistant and then try the Scan to Computer again. The computer name should now be visible.
Check the Scan to Computer setting
The Scan to Computer setting is enabled when you install the printer software. If you cannot scan to the computer after installing the software, follow these steps to make sure that the Scan to Computer setting is enabled in the software.
Step one: Check the Scan to Computer setting
Follow these steps to check the Scan to Computer setting.
- On the main menu, click the Apple icon (), and then click System Preferences.
- Click Print & Fax or Print & Scan.
- Under Printers, click your printer, if you see more than one printer.
- Click Open Print Queue. The print queue for your printer opens.
- Click Printer Setup. A new window opens.
- Click the Utility tab, and then click Open Printer Utility. The HP Utility window opens.
- Under Scan Settings, click Scan to Computer.
- + I do not see the Scan to Computer setting
If you do not see a Scan to Computer setting, click #NEW#HP Software and Drivers#NEW# to download the latest full feature software from the HP website.
Important: To enable full scan function, you must select the Recommended Install option on the Installation Options screen.
- At the top of the screen, click the check box next to Enable Scan to Computer, if it is not already checked.
