Well I tried all the suggestions in the posts, downloaded all the windows 7 updates and nothing worked. Finally a friend told me to reinstall Windows, I did and popped in the HP CD and it worked, couldnt believe it. Thanks everybody for the help. I guess maybe the Wininstaller had a problem. Thanks Everybody for the help. I can finally enjoy this printer now.

I've tried everything. The document you sent, the installer disk, user fixes, everything I could find. But the printer still won't print. I'm running a Win7 Home Premium/Ubuntu 10.04 Dual boot on a core i5 with 4gb of ddr3 RAM. I'm trying to get this to work on Windows. Funny, it works with no problems on Ubuntu...

I have a officejet pro 8600 and am trying to set it up on a Mac Os X 10.7.3  computer.   Successful on basic install but will not work when gets to add computer on the   (+ ) computer on preference page.  Getting error that says "The software for this printer is currently unavailable. Please contact the printer’s manufacturer for the latest software".  I have downloaded critical issues to fix this from this sight and this was no help.  The date released 1-24-12 and tried 10-03-2011 downloads.  Neither worked.

I just purchased this printer (8600 Premium) and called tech support when I couldn't get it installed,  After 2 hours the guy finally was able to get it to print with my windows 7 computer, but he was unable to get the "scan to computer" working.  He finally saiod that it was a problem that HO knew aboutr and they were working on a solution, and I would be contacted when they figured it out. 

Will this printer scan to computer???

The HP tech ran that utility yesterday.  I ran it again just now and Win (wia) scan had a red X.  Scanner Communication can't be established.  HP Twain red X.  Didn't know if I should uninstall so I stopped there.
