I recently uninstalled the HP software for the printer, prior to a re-install. I had been having issues with the wireless networking and reliability. Kept telling me drivers were not installed. USB worked fine.
So I downloaded the driver package from HP website, and after accepting the terms, I get an error message that reads: "The system cannot find the file specified." The top of the error bar reads: "C:Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp\7zS3C24\set
This was giving me hell...
I noticed the path the installer was searching for blocksysuserinstall.exe is fixed for my package: 7zS3C24 under %temp%, yet the extraction software generated a random folder with name format 7zxxxxx in %temp% . Had to rename the random directory in %temp% to follow the path the installer was set to use, namely 7zS3C24.
What burns me about this, is I have found no information regarding this issue anywhere. I fixed it while I was typing this post. Dumb luck. Figured I would post this, in case anyone else runs into the same issue.
On a Dell laptop, 64 bit Windows 7 Enterprise Edition, printer: HP Photosmart c4385
Keyword: blocksysuserinstall.exe

Hope this might help someone.

Thanks Ender! I wasted a bunch of time today trying to reinstall this software. I used the same installer as I had previously, so there must have been a change somewhere outside the installer where the temp folder that it said it created is different than the one it actually did. Bizarre... Thanks again for your post -- renaming the temp folder to what the installer was expecting solved the problem. ![]()

My issue was with a C4385 printer... the directory name needed to be 7zS5EA8.
I have discovered that if you look at the initial error path to blocksysuserinstall.exe when you first try the install, it will give you the temp folder name you are looking for.
It would be nice if HP could fix this instead of leaving us to hunt out a solution on our own...

So glad to have finally found this post - this is my problem, but I don't understand how you make the changes that are needed. can someone please help me with the steps to rename the temp directory or whatever I need to do. I have spent 2 days trying to fix this and I am so close thanks to these posts!
UPDATE: After reading the posts several times, I finally figured out what to do...for anyone who needs hhelp, here is what I did:
I ran the install and when I got the blocksysuserinstall error message I wrote down the path as much as I could see AND the 7z..... name. In my case I had to go to users/owner/appdata/local/temp. I sorted the directory in date visited order and got the last 7z..... file created and renamed it to the name in the error message. I reran the software and MIRACLE OF MIRACLES, it worked.
So many thanks to you guys for putting this out there for someone like me to find. I cannot believe that HP lets this happen and doesn't fix the problem! Thanks again so much!!!!!!!!!!

I had the same problem installing my Photosmart C7280 on an MSI Laptop running Windows 7 64 bit.
This path the installer was set to use was the only difference. It was 7zS5574. Your suggested fix worked like a charm. Thank you.

I am having the same problem but I cannot seem to get the folder renamed procedure to work. Each time I run the program and then it fails to install, I rename the folder. But when I run the install again the install process just recreates another folder, so the install fails again. Can someone please help me? I must be missing a step somewhere.
