Slow boot time with J6480 printer

I don't know if this is where I want to be, but here goes....

I have the OfficeJet J6480 AIO and when I start Windows it takes forever, around 2 full minutes before I can even use the computer. No internet, no opening Word, no nothing, waiting for printer software to load.

I love the printer but I hate this delay. Is there any way of speeding this up and still retaining full functionality of this thing?

Thanks in advanced.

Vista Ultimate 32bit

And it doesn't matter if the printer is the only thing installed

Re: Slow boot time with J6480 printer

Do you have Zone Alarm v8 installed perchance?  I had the same sort of issues

with my 6480.  I had to exclude the drivers from the virus scanner:

Re: Slow boot time with J6480 printer

I saw your post and had to reply. I'm having the exact issue with my "new" J4580 with Vista. The boot-up time is taking an extra 1-2 minutes now. I've de-installed the J4580 software just to see if the problem goes away, which it did. Boot-up time returns to normal. Reinstall the massive J4580 software package and the problem reappears. I think it has to do with the HP Solution Center software itself but I'm not sure.

I called printer support and they said it was a O/S problem. I assured the nice lady that it's probably the printer software since I've had the computer

for 18 months now WITH NO PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER but after installing the J4580 software the bootup time increases. She, of course, then

connected with the HP O/S guys, who like me, know better and said they couldn't help me with a printer problem.

I decided not to pursue this w/HP as I'm sure they will figure it out someday and I'll patiently wait for their patch. Otherwise the printer works fine.

Re: Slow boot time with J6480 printer

When I bought mine last week I thought I had a great printer. installed it {USB} over an old deskjet and I had no problems with slow boots. The ho it is on was running for a year without having to be reloaded. Decided to try it wirelessly. uninstalled wired version and installed wireless, then slow boot appeared. Well, to make a long story short, I reformatted and did a clean install. right after the printer went in everything slowed down.

hpwsrmon.exe is alway in my problem reports file

wish they would find the solution.

Am wondering if my old printer driver could have been why it worked the first titme. ARRRRRRRggggggggggghhh

Come on hp. get on the ball and admit it than fix it, Please

Re: Slow boot time with J6480 printer

I just got off with tech support. told me to add printer drivers listed in the firewall exception list. Doesn't make sense but will try anything.

Ok, total waste of time as I expected. I wish that when we call or chat we actually could talk with a tech and not a robot reading a pre defined script. I tried to tell them that I found a DLL, "

Problem Event Name: ServiceHang

Service Name: hpqddsvc

Image Name: hpqddsvc.dll

Image Version: 100.0.190.0"

That hangs on every boot. not to my surprise he wasn't the least bit interested. HP used to be a good company, what's happening?

Re: Slow boot time with J6480 printer

My PhotoSmart C4380 suffer from the same problem. Under a freshly installed XP, which having nothing but only the C4380 drive suite installed, the drivers will still add about 2 to 3 minutes to boot time.

After some trial and errors, I found that if u change the service settings of "HP CUE  DeviceDiscovery Service" to start manually instead of automatic, the boot time will become normal again.

See if this help in your situations.

1. Start -> Run -> "Services.msc"

2. Locate and double click "HP CUE DeviceDiscovery Service"

3. Change its launch option from "Automatic" to "Manual"
