Thanks, that worked for me.

 

FYI, I had noticed in the Event Viewer (prior to your fix) that this service was hanging-up during the boot-up process but didn't think to start

it manually instead of automatically. I wonder why it hangs if started automatically but somehow works correctly if started manually...and

which procedure/program actually starts it up now during the regular Windows start? Oh well.

Fred,

 

Manual start up calls on the servie when required and not for it to boot at startup. The auto mode is calling on it even though it is not in use, an error on HP's staff for not having the services set to manual during install

 

Grisham,

I have a friend with the same issue but using Vista Home. I am unfamiliar with Vista is the fix going to be similar?
