Tried downloading on my XP machine, and it says that it does not work on the HP (6500) device.

Same with me. Tried everything under the sun. It would be nice to have someone from HP, who knew what they were doing, make a comment.

I have a working 6500 all in one wireless on and XP machine - the patch has been downloaded and it says, not for any devices on this machine. The download site says it should work. Like most of HP equipment great, support has no one who knows what they are doing, or there would be so many posts regarding solution center

It was said it would be nice to have someone from HP that knows what they are doing make a comment. Notice that there are no comments from HP, does that say something. There are threads for this problem going back over a year, with no solution.

For some software, even though you remove it through the control panel, it leaves files on your computer. This may be the issue here. So, HP provides clean up utility. Sometimes the first install doesn't work, but it leaves files, that keep you from installing a "clean" version. Try this, then try downloading the software from the website (start with letting it detect your printer, if it doesn't see it at first, turn the printer off and on, and hit retry) Hp customer support is on vacation (all the time).
To download the Windows CleanUp utility, please use the below link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
Open the webpage, and then scroll the webpage, click on "Download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility package now". Or you may click on the FTP Link as under:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/9/d/e9d80
A Window with 'Run' and 'Save' button will pop.
1.Click on Save button
2.Select Desktop in the "Save In' drop down list in the Save As screen and click on the 'Save' button and go ahead to download the driver to your computer's Desktop.
3.After the file is saved to the desktop, go to the computer's desktop and double click on the downloaded file named msicuu2.exe and select RUN.
4.Follow the instructions on the installer screens to complete the installation.
After the installation is completed, follow the below steps to open Windows CleanUp utility:
1.Click Start
2.click 'All Programs' (or 'Programs')
3.Click Windows Installer Clean Up Utility. A dialog box will be displayed that contains a message, a list of installed products, and four buttons.
4.Select 'SolutionCenter' in the list and click on 'Remove' button to uninstall the entry.
5. Restart the computer to enable the steps.
I am sure that the issue will be resolved.

That doesn't help with my Macbook Pro and HP 2210. Remind me to never buy another HP product.
