Solution center does not recognize printer

Printer is an HP C7180. OS is Windows 7 (64 bit).
Solution Center says that printer is disconnected - but it is connected & running.
What to do ??

How is the printer connected to your PC?

Uninstall the HP Solution Center. Install the latest operating system appropriate version available at your printer's web support portal.

Installed latest version of Solution Center and the problem continues.

I insatlled the latest version of solution center on Win7 (32bit) and presumably the latest drivers for my Photosmart C7280. The problem was not fixed.
Solution center continues to report the printer as disconnected.

This of course was tried, however the problem continues to exist.
All lated fixes from Microsoft and HP have been applied.
HPPSDr was run and reports all is well. However it is no!.
From reading the "board", it appears this is a fairly commmon problem?

A simple fix if it would solve the problem. However it did not solve the problem for me.

I was tearing my hair out......it turns out that I had accidently deleted the digital image monitoring icon in m the lower right corner of my tray.
here is how to reinstall:.....
Thanks for the Document of all the possible solutions. What I found was the "Digital Imaging Monitor" was not running and by going to the directory C:\Program Files\HP\Document Imaging\Bin and finding the execute file hpqtra08.exe, clicking on that and pressing the ENTER key, started the Digital Imaging Monitor and the icon popped up in the lower right program bar showing it was running. Once that was running I was able to open the HP Solution Center to do my scanning, etc.
The only problem I had was when I rebooted my computer, the Document Imaging Monitor did not open and the icon would not show up in the lower right corner of the program bar. So this time I went to the directory of C:\Program Files\HP\Digital Imaging\Bin, clicked once on the hpqtra08.exe file, then right clicked and created a shortcut icon on my desktop for that execute. Now whenever I need to use the HP Solution Center I just double click on the icon I created that starts the Digital Imaging Monitor and then I am able to open the HP Solution Center.
