Solution to fix error message when accessing 'Maintenance Tasks' (Toolbox) or ink levels.

If you come across the similar error message after you upgrade the firmware for following printers, please follow the resolution below to fix it.

 

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One series
  • HP Officejet Pro 8100 ePrinter
  • HP Officejet 6700 Premium e-All-in-One
  • HP Officejet 6600 e-All-in-One

Resolution:


Try either of the following to resolve the issue.

a)      Uninstall and reinstall the printer software.

 

or 

 

b)       Follow the instructions below to delete XmlFileCache directory 

Instructions to delete XmlFileCache directory:

Windows Vista/Windows 7:

  • Go to C:\ProgramData\HP\<PRODUCT>

-    C: is your system directory (usually where windows is installed)

-    ProgramData is a hidden file

-    <PRODUCT> is the product you had installed

  • Delete the XmlFileCache directory found there

 

Windows XP:

  • Go to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\HP\<PRODUCT>

-    C: is your system directory (usually where windows is installed)

-    <PRODUCT> is the product you had installed

  • Delete the XmlFileCache directory found there
Click on the BLUE KUDOS button on the left to say "Thanks"

Good catch! I have been puzzling over this for several weeks and hadn't found a clue. Your post prompted my old brain into action. After slapping myself in the fore head I said "of course its in the ProgramData folder".
