Two installation questions C4380

I have replaced my previous computer with an HP G5429, running Windows 7 64 bit, and I'm now trying to install my Photosmart C4380. Before I start, I have two questions:

1. Less important first:  I'd like to install the driver in English. I live in France and bought the computer here, but I set up Windows and installed all the othe software (Office, Adobe, etc) in English. I downloaded the HP driver from the UK site, asking for the English version, but when I opened the install program, it was in French. If I have to, I can deal with this, but I'd prefer not. How can I get the driver to install in English?

2. Much more important:  My old computer was a laptop, which I connected to the internet and the printer over the wireless router. This computer is connected to the (same) router through BPL. A second computer (Pavillion, Windows 7 64 bit) is also connected to the router through BPL, and connected by USB to the printer. When I install the driver on my new computer, will it find the printer through the router? In other words, the network would look like this:

ROUTER -- bpl -- existing PC

                        /               \                 /

                   bpl            wireless       usb

                     /                     \          /

            new PC                   printer

Would this work, and how do I set up the connection in the new PC?

Thanks in advance

Re: Two installation questions C4380

Hi migo,

Regarding the installation language, access the computer regional settings and validate the language settings are configured to english under the Format tab

As well, and most important, set it as well under Administrative > Change System Locale

I would also recommend you to change the location if the previous settings have not chnage the installation language.

Regarding the network structure, as long as the device connected with USB  to your computer, the device will not get an IP address from your router and therefore will not be reachable from the 2nd PC..

1 option is to share the printer from the PC directly connected to your printer and then add the shared printer - the main PC will be used to print from the 2nd PC and will have to be turned on in order to print from any of the PCs, and only print capabilities will be available for the 2nd PC.

If your router supports 802.11 wireless connection, I would recommend you to set the wireless connection and then use the software from any of the computers - as long as any of the devices are synced with the network, the printer should be reachable from any of the PCs.

In order to set it, you will have to run the installation and follow the steps to configure the wifi connection, you will have to temporary connect the printer by USB in order to setup the wifi connection.

Re: Two installation questions C4380

Thanks, ShlomiL.  Option 1 sounds the easiest, but a follow-up question to option 2: are you suggesting that I set up the whole network as wifi, or just that I disconnect the USB connection - that is, there would be a wireless printer-router connection, but the PCs would keep the BPL connection?

The printer has always worked well on wireless, but because of the location of my study, the wifi connection for my second computer isn't so great, which is why I went for the wired alternative.

Re: Two installation questions C4380

Hi migo,

In order to clarify, i would sujjest you to configure only the printer as wifi, while the PCs will remain as is..

If your router supports wifi connection, as long as any of the device are connected to the same routers, it does not matter if each device is connected as wired or wifi, any of the devices should be reachable..

Ofcourse it might change if you have any unique network envoirnment configuration, but by using usual settings any of the devices should be available regardless the physical connection type.

Re: Two installation questions C4380

Thanks again, ShlomiL. I think I'll try option 2, after all. If I have any problems, I'll be back.
