We're trying to install our brand new HP Photosmart 375 portable printer onto our HP Laptop that is Vista based.
Unable to use the installation CD as it's for 2000,XP only. HP website states that Vista should pick up the printer and install it automatically
(for USB connected printers which ours is) - then I find HP website shows no available drivers.
Can someone guide us as to whether or not we can use the 375 with Vista?
Many thanks in advance

Thanks Dexter....I've already been to this page. Hence why I've signed up to this forum. I've spent too many hours on this and I'm totally frustrated.
So I guess that a NO - the 375 isn't Vista compatible?

Hello,
Same here. I got this printer a while ago but NEVER succeed in installing it on ANY Vista PC. I recently tried with Windows 7 ... No more luck.
The only response I got with whatever way I contatced HP is "This printer is supported natively by Vista". This is in no way true OR my printer is dead. In that case it never worked and I'm much frustrated.
Any chance from your side ?
With best regards,
Thierry

Hello Everyone
There is not Vista compatibility with the printer part, however, the good news there is for the memory card reader part and hence there is a work around!!! Simple pick up a cheap SD card or whatever compatible card you wish to use to transfer the photos. Plug the printer into the USB port and power up. Vista/Windows 7 will install as a USB card reader. Put the card into the proper memory card slot and it will show in windows. Transfer the pictures you would like over to the card and the print can print directly from the card. Used it many times this way, too bad it is a bit round a bought but it works!!
Enjoy

It seems to be a problem with some Vista systems but not with others. I was able to plug my Photosmart 375 into my new HP Desktop running Vista64 and it was recognized without any problems and installed from built in drivers. Not so with my new HP Vista64 laptop where it cannot find compatible built in drivers and keeps asking for a CD or downloaded driver and rejects the WinXP drivers as unsuitable.

It took me a while but I found a fix for this issue.
1. open the control panel from the start menu and locate the device manager
2. expand the 'other devices' drop down menu*
3. Right click on the HP Photosmart 370 printer and select update driver software
4. In the window that pops up select 'Browse my computer for software'
5. Then select 'Let me pick from a list of drivers for on my computer'
6. Select the make and model of the printer, the 375 will not be there but the HP Photosmart 370 series driver is working just fine for me.
hope this helps
* this drop down may be under a different name after I did this it moved it the the Universal Serial Bus menu so you may have to search for the printer. It was listed as the HP Photosmart 370 though.

I tried the device manager driver update but it didn't work for me. I've had this Photosmart 375 for a few years and have never had a problem installing it before. I've used it with Win98, ME. XP and yes Vista before. What I'm trying to do now is re-install it on my Gateway laptop after installing a new HD. It worked on this computer with the original HD but not with the new.
Since I install new HD I used the Vista OS disc that came with the computer when new. HP says that drivers are included in Vista OS but all I get is not compatible when trying to install.
If I click Start Menu, Settings, Printers: HP370 is there but this only gives you Basic access to the printer, not full use, and the printer doesn't show in Programs.
