Unable to connect HP Officejet 4500 via USB

This is not the first time the printer (model in title) is installed on the computer. It used to work completely fine before the computer's hd was formated. It has Windows XP Professional SP2, as before. I downloaded the drivers from the HP website, but I'm stuck in the "Connect your Device" step. I'm sure the usb and power cables are properly connected, but I can't proceed in the installer because the next button is disabled at the step it prompts to connect the usb cable.

 

I hope somebody can help me with this, as I need to use the printer.

Hello rythn,

 

Are you connecting through a hub or directly in the computer? If a hub try plugging in directly into the computer. 

Have you tried a different USB port?
