Unable to connect my XP Prof laptop to usb (networked) Officejet J6450 AIO printer

Due to some scanning issues, I re-installed my AIO to my Dell (Windows 7-64) desktop USB port instead of the former ethernet connection. However, I am unable to connect to it from my laptop with XP Pro. I downloaded and installed the latest J6450 full software, and can do a print test, but cannot access the printer through the Solution Center, hence the scanner and other features are not available from the laptop. Furthermore, does anyone know to which folder the hp application software is extracted to so I can re-run the setup file?

The AIO has a w/l button, so I will attempt a w/l instalation on the laptop.

Hello tracer19

Do you receive any errors with Solution Center? What was the problem that prompted the switch from having a network printer to using USB?

To answer your other question it should extract to the Temp folder. Type into the search/run box %temp% and press enter. The printer should be extracted to a 7z folder.

Re: Unable to connect my XP Prof laptop to usb (networked) Officejet J6450 AIO printer

Hello Tracer_C

Thanks for responding. The error was "The scan cannot be performed because another program or computer is using....." The w/l installation was successful after several failed attempts. (I accept the blame for this). After 2 or 3 tries, I noticed the requirement to connect the printer to the USB port on the laptop, to install the drivers. After the drivers were installed the software said it would search the network, and it didn't connect until I connected the printer to the desktop).

I thought I could do a non-w/l installation, but this is just as well, because I don't often print from the laptop anyway, so I can keep the w/l feature turned off on the router until I need to print from the laptop.

I found the install folder for Xp: C:\Documens and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\7Z***.tmp\Setup.exe.
