If your printer is the Photosmart C5280 then download and install the driver from HP's website here.

I've installed that driver 3 times and each time I try to run it, my system says the file is corrupt and it won't load....

Having the same problems here. Win7 won't recognise the printer when it's plugged in, there's no "point me at your own driver" option like there was in previous versions, there's no separate driver downlaod and the awfully bloated HP installer keeps giving me an error that "The system cannot find the file specified" (with no information on what it's looking for, of course).
All of which adds up to "it doesn't work". Awesome.
Anyone found a third-party fix from somewhere?

Hi SpikeTheLobster,
What printer do you have?
How are you attempting to connect the printer to your computer?
Follow the steps below, and let me know what happens?
Step one: Clear temp directory
- Type %temp% in the run or search for programs and files field
- Highlight all the files in this folder, and then press the delete key to delete. If you get a message that the file is in use you will need to skip this file(s).
- Continue with Step 2 below
Step two: Downloaded and extracted to your system:
1. Download the full feature software and drivers
Note: Go to HP Customer Care, and then enter your printer model. Download the full feature software and driver, and then follow the remaining steps below. If your product doesn’t have the uninstall_l4 then please let me know what printer you have and the operating system you are running.
2. Once the download is finished double click on the file to extract the software.
3. When the installation window opens press the cancel button to stop the installation
4. Type %temp% in the run or search for programs and files field
5. Look for, and open the folder starting with 7z (Example: 7zS2356)
6. Right click on the folder, and select Copy
7. Close that window, and all your open windows, and then in the middle of the desktop right click your mouse, and select Paste. This will move the 7z folder to your desktop.
8. Open the 7z folder you just copied to your desktop
9. Open folder Util
10. Open folder CCC
11. Run the uninstall_L4 (.bat or .exe)
12. When the uninstall has completed restart the computer
13. Run Disk cleanup from Accessories\ System Tools folder under all programs
14. Download and install the latest version of Adobe flash player
http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads
15. Open the 7z folder, and then double click on the Setup.exe file which will be toward the bottom of the open window. Follow the on screen instructions to reinstall your printer.
Let me know if you are able to successfully install the software and driver, and are able to print & scan?

What printer do you have? Photosmart C5280 (the clue is in the thread title
)
How are you attempting to connect the printer to your computer? USB
Step one: Clear temp directory
I do this regularly (using cCleaner, mostly). There are no old install files in the temp directories (mine, system or any other user's)
Step two: Downloaded and extracted to your system:
The downloaded executable is just a cabinet file, so it can be extracted without all the start/stop hassle. Just a simple "Extract here" does fine, assuming you have WinRAR or similar. I have the source files extracted and run the install from there.
9. Open folder Util
10. Open folder CCC
11. Run the uninstall_L4 (.bat or .exe)
12. When the uninstall has completed restart the computer
It crashes at Step 10/12 (80%), at "Current progress - Software\Microsoft\Windows Portable Devices\FormatMap\.gif". Never gets past this.
The crash dump is a bunch of codes, of course, but it's hpzscr01.exe that dies.
13. Run Disk cleanup from Accessories\ System Tools folder under all programs
No thanks - Microsoft's disk cleanup is appalling. If you're concerned about space, don't be - I have 378Gb free on the system drive and 156Gb free on my data drive.
14. Download and install the latest version of Adobe flash player
Why?

Why? - Solution Center uses Flash player to run properly.
Have you tried a new USB cable?
How long is the USB cable you are currently using?
Do you have a USB hub between the printer and computer?
Install the printer on a different computer to help isolate a possible hardware or operating system causing this issue with installation. Let me know what you find out?

Sorry for the delay in replying - the site wouldn't show me a login prompt. ![]()
Why? - Solution Center uses Flash player to run properly.
And that makes a difference to the driver install process?
Have you tried a new USB cable?
No, but I've used the same one on another machine and for other peripherals and it works just fine.
How long is the USB cable you are currently using?
1.5m, I believe. Standard length.
Do you have a USB hub between the printer and computer?
No.

It works perfectly on WinXP (my partner's laptop). I am currently just porting everything I want to print over to her machine and dumping it from there. It seems Win7 and the drivers disagree. Intensely.
Even if I get it working once (which isn't happening any more, since I can no longer install successfully (see above)) it prints a page then again starts printing partial pages from then on. It's extremely frustrating.
Thankfully, I have a workaround so I care a lot less now. ![]()
