Vista keeps losing touch withy HP solution centre for Photosmart C7180

Is there a reason why I have to keep reinstalling HP Solution Centre to get full functionality from my C7180?

It works fine for a while - sometimes several weeks - (although repeatedly opening an annoying dialogue box requesting username and password which I can safely close) and then suddenly it doesn't. (I can tell when it stops working because the annoying dialogue box disappears.)

Tonight I installed a driver for an HP7200 which at least allows me to print, however doesn't provide any of the scanner functionality that I need.

I am using a wireless connection from a Lenovo T61 Thinkpad running Vista Business (fully up-to-date).

I don't know if there's a connection between installing other software on the computer and then being unable to access HP Solution Centre, however today I had a problem with printing a document because I neglected to login at the office proplery.  When I got home HP Solution Centre was no longer working.  When I try to open I get a message 'No HP devices detected.  HP Solution Centre will close now.'

Advice appreciated

Re: Vista keeps losing touch withy HP solution centre for Photosmart C7180

I have just tried restoring my computer to one of Vistas 'checkpoints' two days ago.  (before my printing issue at work - see above - also, now that I recall, before I upgraded a piece of add-on software not related to printing or scanning) Voila - HP Solution Centre now works!

So, does this means that if I ever install new software or do anything that affects the registry, that the whole HP Solution Centre has to be re-installed?

There is an issue where if you update the Flash Player, then the Solution Center starts acting up. And MAYBE updating the anti-virus/firewall database could result in these programs blocking the SC's connection to the device...

Re: Vista keeps losing touch withy HP solution centre for Photosmart C7180

I have had the same problem with the HP Solution Center not recognizing my HP C7180, and I have had to completely uninstall and reinstall the HP C7180 software and drivers at least 25 times over the last year. I primarily use the scanner fuctionality to add documents and receipts to Quicken. I have the scanner set up on my home network and I am using a Windows Vista Ultimate Operating System fully updated. I'd consider myself an advanced computer user who is tecnologically savvy. I've built several computers so I don't give up easily. But I give up now.

It used to work just fine, but over the past year the reliability has been terrible. I recently did a complete clean installation of Vista in an attempt to get rid of this issue of the Solution Center or C7180 uninstalling itself. It took two days to get the operating system and my programs reinstalled, and today just when I needed to finish my tax work, the Solution Center quit working again.

I was the the biggest HP fan and cheerleader because of the customer service, but I have to tell you that I've reached my limit with this software problem. When is HP going to address and fix this bug?

I'm five minutes away from buying a scanner/printer from another manufacturer and selling the HP C7180 to someone on eBay and let them deal with it.

Re: cannot download software for photosmart premium 410 series on Vista 7

I have been experiencing this for several months. My first round of troubleshooting led me to believe I lost connectivity to the device when the router was rebooted. Further diagnostics revealed that when I remote desktop into the PC , it would then lose it's ability to properly work with the device. Mostly the Solution Center from the PC would not recognize it's existence, or the device would report an error connecting to the PC. Sometimes, the printer completely disappears from the PC as a device. I've had the device for over 4 years and the problem has been occurring for the past 8 months. It was likely due to an HP Driver update or Windows Update. I'm using a Photosmart C7180 and the PC is a WIndows 7 Ultimate 64 bit edition.
