Re: Why won't my officejet 4500 copy in legal size?

Hey Letterhead,

It may do the job.  There are a bunch of "4500" printers out there.

I grabbed the manual for the 4500 510G and found the basic instructions on page 31.

You can download the manual - see below...

Print on special or custom-sized paper (Windows)
1. Load paper in the tray. For more information, see Load media.

2. On the File menu in your software application, click Print.

3. Select the product you want to print to.

4. If you need to change settings, click the button that opens the Properties dialog box.
Depending on your software application, this button might be called Properties,
Options, Printer Setup, Printer, or Preferences.

5. If necessary, set up the custom size in the printer driver:

a. On the Features tab, click Custom in the Size drop-down list.
b. Type a name for the new custom size.
c. In the Width and Height boxes, type the dimensions, and then click Save.
d. Click OK.

NOTE: To achieve the highest dpi resolution, you can use the Maximum dpi
setting with supported types of photo paper. If Maximum dpi is not listed in the
Print quality drop-down list, you can enable it from the Advanced tab.

6. Make sure the custom size is selected in the Size drop-down list.

7. Select the paper type:
a. Click More in the Paper type drop-down list.
b. Click the desired paper type, and then click OK.

8. Click OK, and then click Print or OK to begin printing.

If you do not already have it, the Full Feature Software will make your printing life easier and better!

How to get it for your computer, if it is available...

Install Printer Driver / Software

If your printer stops working (and it’s not a hardware problem), it may be due to software or driver issues.  There are tools to help you diagnose the problem and help documents to guide you to success.  You might just desire extra features for your printer, or need extra tools to help with scheduled maintenance.

In many cases, you can (re)install the Full Feature Software for your printer to enhance its capabilities.

(Re)install the basic driver or Full Feature Software:

Drivers control hardware connected to the computer (wired or wireless).

Software controls the programs that interact with the User.

  • Go to the top of the forum page to Support and Drivers
  • Enter your Printer Model information, and then go to Software and Drivers...
  • Enter your Operating System in the Drop-down menu...  Scroll down
  • Look for category Driver - Product Installation Software
  • Select the appropriate Basic Driver or Full Feature Software – if available for your printer Save the *.exe installation package on your computer -
  • NOTE the name and the location - the *.exe file will likely save to "Downloads “Install the Software / Driver installation package:  It will be named *.exe – the package will most likely be located in the Downloads folder.  If you have ‘Admin’ control, you may highlight the package and “double-click” to install it, else Right-Click, Select ‘run as Administrator’ and install.

NOTE:  There is sometimes a lot of information at the printer’s website, including manuals, alerts, and how-to help!.  Be sure to take an extended look at what’s available.
