I now have a HP Pavilion dv4 Notebook PC with Windows 7 Home Premium operating system.
The CD with driver software for my officejet 4200 does not support Windows 7 Home Premium.
How do I obtain necessary drivers?
Thank you.

You need to be looking for the 4200 series which will work, in Windows 7 go to your start menu(windows icon) and select Devices and Printers once that opens look in the upper left task bar and you will see Add a printer click on that select your choice in your case add a local printer, then use existing port, click next , now you will see a button near the bottom right that says Windows Update(you must be connnected to the internet) click on that button and the drivers will update in a mintue or so....scroll to HP and scroll down to the Officejet 4200 series and select this....it will install the driver for your printer....you wont have solution center or any HP software but you will be able to use your printer.

Same problem here. This finally fixed it.
Go to HP website and download the version for Vista. Then download the version for the Winows 7 upgrade from vista.
Run the 1st and check the box during the install because it wont recognize the usb connection yet.
Run the 2nd one, the upgrade one, and then reboot.
Open device and printers and trouble shoot the printer.
This time it will find the printer and install the fix, it did on mine anyway.

My success using some of the 4/7/2011 post was to start with steps 1,2,3 of this page:http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docnam
My initial download failed, stating a download failure, Download the 32/64 bit Vista version of your W7 operating system and save it to your desk top. Shut down any firewall or anti-virus before running the Hp driver. I did not run the full installation and custom installed those items to keep the installation from being too bloated to cause another unforeseen problem. The installation will start and the installation icon will start running at the bottom of your screen. Half way thru the installation the progress bar on the HP program will suddenly freeze but the installation icon should indicate that the driver was installed. I figured that the driver installation failed again but it did not. Clicking on Drivers and Printers should show that the printer is ready to run and no error indicator posted to it. Just click on the "X"(upper right corner) on the stuck HP installation page and within a minute or two it will continue the download until finished. Shut off you printer and reboot.
I have worked for two days from numerous posted fixes and this may work for others on this old but good work horse printer.
