installation failing... due to network problem... error logs provided

Hello,

I am trying to install the software for OfficeJet pro 8500 A909 Wireless All-in-one. The installation worked on another PC that has Windows XP SP3, but not on this PC (same OS).

When the last part of the installation (the one with the slide show of HP's products), it goes to 96%, hangs/stays there for a while, then pops up with a dialog box saying a fatal error has occured. I have the title bar of the message here: http://cid-63b99c960112383a.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/Public/hp%20error.bmp

After I click OK, it starts gathering its error logs: http://cid-63b99c960112383a.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/Public/hp%20error%20details.bmp (Skydrive compressed it a bit, but if you need me to upload it uncompressed, I can; please tell me and I will)

It seems to have all the software there, but HP Solution Center only recognizes my old printer, and I can't get it to recognize my OfficeJet pro 8500. The driver for my new printer seems to be working OK... it can print from this (where install failed) PC. I plan on using it to scan images, and the only way to do this is by using the Solution Center.

This printer is connected to a wireless router, so I'm not using the printer's wireless networking, but the router's. All the PCs except this one seem to recognize the printer just as if it was connected to the router.

I have tried uninstalling (since it was installed enough for it to say it was installed) and reinstalling, but I get the same message. I also get an error after I restart when I just uninstalled (something that has to do with completing the uninstall). I doubt that it has anything to do with conflicting programs, because I have way less programs installed on this PC compared to the others I have.

Re: installation failing... due to network problem... error logs provided

Actually tried looking at a different forum (something with IT forums in HP) and tried following suggestions from other topics, but none helped. But at least I got the HP Document manager to work (installed the items one-by-one). I'll see if I can get those sites here... But the only thing they helped in was installing one-by-one, but Solution Center says it needs a reinstall from the CD. So I just forgot about Solution Center and am using the HP Document manager.

I take my time posting up error logs and HP doesn't even try to help... well kind of the same deal when I read those other topics...

Re: installation failing... due to network problem... error logs provided

I actually had some luck by using the uninstall program on the CD.  You MUST select "uninstall all HP programs associated with this printer" to get it to work.  I uninstalled the printer itself by selecting it individually, but it did not work.  In the end, it seems that the last 4% item that it was waiting for was internet access to prompt the registration questions.  Ugh.

I did get a clean install once I removed all HP programs per above.

Goodbye, 4 hours, I will never get you back.

Re: installation failing... due to network problem... error logs provided

Well, at least I can access the printer functions on another PC, thankfully.

I even did a Level 2 uninstall from the CD... but at least I can access something via HP Document manager... I didn't like using the HP Support Center on the other PCs... but at least I'm satisified.

Re: installation failing... due to network problem... error logs provided

Hello Mr. Penguin,

Hmmm. what can i say?

The error will appear after the installation search the printer on the network?

Check if the HP network device support is running..(start>run>services.msc). On the services windows look for HP network device support check if its running, if not try to start or restart it. If you can't access these files x:\setup\network (x: is your cd drive)--it may also depend if you have and 64x or 32x OS if you have the 64x OS open the network (64) folder. Inside that folder you can see network.msi, right click on it and install, right click it again click on repair. If you are having problem installing the network.msi. Try to download the software of the printer online, extract it. The extracted file will go to the temp folder, usually it will say HP (if your printer is 8500) if you cannot see HP folder look for a folder that starts with 7z...Open that folder and same thing setup\network and install the repair the network.msi again. Or if you still have the same problem. Download the software of this printer c4780 install it as if it was installed using a USB(note.. do not connect your 8500 using the usb cable to the computer). Now if you select the usb installation of the c4780 it will ask you to connect the usb, now  for you to install the softwar only of the c4780 there is an option for you to click here to connect the device later, click on that option and continue the installation. After it was successfully installed. Go back to the old software(8500) x:\setup\hpznui01.exe (either from the temp or from the cd ) run that file. After you run the hpznui01.exe a window will say like search for network printers. Just follow the instructions.Send me a replay if theres a problem.

Re: installation failing... due to network problem... error logs provided

It already found the printer; it's at the last step where it takes over 10 minutes to give me an error at 96%. I think the HP Document manager is fine; do I lose any features if I just use the HP Document manager and not the Solution Center?

Re: installation failing... due to network problem... error logs provided

I had probs with the OJ 8500 install but with a variation.  I uninstalled then tried to re-install. The software stopped saying that "some files must be deleted to continue"....I chatted with HP techs and they had me download once again from their site, run the L3 uninstall program and re-install....the same message resulted...Does anyone know what files I must delete to continue the install??????

Thanks

Re: installation failing... due to network problem... error logs provided

Hello!

While searching for a solution for my installation problem I discovered this thread and it seemed to be helpful.

I have a problem installing the printer driver for the HP 8500 wireless. The installer discovers the printer and installs the software until 84% of the installing process is reached (Scanning TULIP interface). Then one of the svchost.exe services hangs 100% of processor usage and there is no progress in installation anymore.

I tried your suggestion (installing and repairing network.msi) and trying to run  x:\setup\hpznui01.exe . My printer is being discovered but then the installer says something like "Couldn't finish installation"(got a german system so that's a translation). In the HPZSCUSW***.log appears the error message: "EnumMethods returns 101". Can you help me?

What is this TULIP interface good for? Does it use any network ports?

Can I just install the printer driver without a Scanner Interface?

best regards

Mikey
