new PC, old printer

I just purchased an HP ProBook 4530s laptop PC, Windows 7 Home Premium.  I (still) own an OLD printer, an HP PSC 1401 (I have the # right!).  The HP site with printer drivers does not list my old printer.  HELP!!!

Oops! Google Chrome could not connect to ftp.hp.com

is what I get.  And the file says it is 363 MB???????   Could that be right?  I am at a library, maybe they don't want me to hog the bandwidth for 363 MB.  Is there no better answer???

There is no better answer. There isn't even a basic printer driver on the download page.

I finally was able to download the huge file.  Now I have to wait until I am home to hook up my printer.   I will keep you informed when I am next online.

Well, I ran the huge file 2x, and it failed 2x.  It seemed to do most everything except end!  I captured the error log.  LaunchApp(X:\hpqtra08.exe -shutdown,1,00000000,00000000) failed with 2

Error opening key

Timed out waiting for product finish event

= Applicartion did not return ERROR_SUCCESS.  Returned 0x2

Can you decipher this, do you need the whole thing?

Unfortunately, I can't decipher any of it.

If a printer driver didn't install for me, I would be just about as lost as you.

If you go to add a printer, is yours listed if you elect to select yours from the list?

Maybe you can just use the default printer installation in Windows.
