photosmart C6380 all in one printer

Hello,  I have a C6380 photosmart printer that I am having a horrible time setting up with a Macbook  through wireless connection.  I can do it with a Windows PC successfully, but the mac is driving me nuts.

It will install the software, but stalls when you try to configure the printer at the end of the setup screens after selecting wireless.  it is not seen on the search screen, and tells you the installer is not compatible with the OS.

The Macbook has OS-X 10.5.8 in it, and I tried the installers for 10.4/.5 and 10.6, which of course the 10..6 did not work.  What am I doing wrong?  Do I have to uninstall all previous installations of the software?  Do I have to install the software through USB, then try wirelessly?

I really don't want to mess up this laptop as it is her school computer.  But I would like to use this printer wirelessly which would make her really happy.

Also I have read some forums and I am not the first person to have this problem, but so far the solutions that I have found don't work.

Open Finder and go to Applications > Hewlett-Packard > C6300 series > Uninstall.  Run the uninstaller.

Restart your Mac.

Get the latest software for your printer from the "Support & Drivers" link at the top of this page.

Before installing it, reset the printing system:

- Go to System Preferences > Print & Fax
- Right (or control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!

Now, install the software.

Thanks, I will give it a try after I get the ok to clear her printers, as her school has a few in there.
