I also tried the HP diagnostic scanning program (v4.2). in the result list there are 2 exclamation marcs.
the first for solution center. The path proposed a driver for vista which i can not use.
the second is for the front panel . it is there an error appears but the tool can not resolve the problem.
who can help me with a solution. The printer/scanner always worked correctly in vista

Hello RLel
The problem may be because you upgraded to Windows 7. What happened is more than likely the printer driver that is installed is the one for Vista that was carried over to Windows 7. I would suggest uninstalling the printer and re-installing using the Windows 7 driver. You can find it at the link below just choose your version of Windows 7.

Hello,
I appreciate your quick response. I have already uninstalled and installed the photosmart c5180 software for windows 7 (32 bit) more than once from the HP site but i have still the same error when pushing the scan button in HP Solution center.
I remarked that scanning a photo via windows live photo gallery works (import via scan). I prefer a good working HP solution center because i also use the ocr software for documents.

Hello RLel
Your welcome. The scan error you said you receive on the printer does it give you any more information?
EDIT: Just noticed the scan error in the first post.
Also I just noticed this, after choosing your version of windows 7 on the select your operating system page instead of driver go to Update (2). There is a Software patch "When Upgrading Vista to Windows 7" I would try this. Please let me know if it works.

OK, I Had the same problem and this is how I made the scaner work.
- Printer plug into mike port and or try others
- START/ALL PROGRAMS/HP/HP SOLUTION CENTER/HOME/SCAN DOCUMENTS/CLICK ON BLUE series disconneted/PICK TYPE OF SCAN to use/BROWSE..DESKTOP OR OTHER/OK/OK/FINISH.
- It worked for me, it may take some playing around.
- Good Luck

Hello RLel
I would suggest trying the following procedure. It should remove any excess HP software and hopefully get everything installed fine.
From Original installation CD:
1. Insert CD into drive, and then cancel the installer
2. Open My Computer, and then right click on the CD drive and chose open
3. Open folder Util
4. Open folder CCC
5. Run the L4uninstall.exe
6. When the uninstall has completed restart the computer
7. Run Disk cleanup from Accessories\ System Tools
8. Download and install the latest version of Adobe flash player
http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html
9. Download the full feature software and drivers
10. Run the download to reinstall the printer
If software was downloaded and extracted to your system:
1. Type %temp% in the run field
2. Look for, and open the folder starting with 7z (Example: 7zS2356)
3. Open folder Util
4. Open folder CCC
5. Run the L4uninstall.exe
6. When the uninstall has completed restart the computer
7. Run Disk cleanup from Accessories\ System Tools
8. Download and install the latest version of Adobe flash player
http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html
9. Download the full feature software and drivers
10. Run the download to reinstall the printer
