psc 1315 not doing anything

Hello there.

I have just brought a HP psc 1315 printer.  Admittedly it's second hand but it should do the job we would like it to do.  However, when i plug the printer in, all of the panel lights on top stay on along with a number 8 in the copies window and the printer does nothing.  It won't communicate with the computer and doesn't even seem to go through a "warm up" phase that most printers go through.  I have downloaded and installed all the drivers and software but the computer can't register that the printer is there because it won't do anything.

Is this a common ploblem?  Is it dead and we are better off getting another printer?  Can it be easily fixed or did i do something wrong?

Hi

if all light keep burning as wel as all light from the number display are on (showing an 8) it most likely that the unit has a defect.
