Brand new all in one 1510 printer wont print from new 2013 DELL laptop using WINDOWS 8 64 bits. Ran Print and Scan Doctor to no avail. Uninstalled the software that I had installed from the installation CD that came with the product (as recommeded by JonW who says works for HP. Disconnected the printer (again, as recommended by JonW), re-installed software from official hp website after selecting WINDOWS 8 64 bits (I hoped any diver problem would be taken care of by that and that the installation software is the latest version). Reconnected printer to laptop. Still wont print. Ran Scan Doctor again. Wont print. Have restarted the laptop several times. Wont print. Have switched the USB port. Wont print. No documents ever appear in queue, only once (in like 20 attempts) did I see a pdf document in the printer's queue, but just for a few seconds and with a funny icon. This is turning out VERY time-consuming and frustrating and the troubleshooting recommedations on the hp site start talking about spooling and ports and they seem endless. The printer is the default one and is not offline. I am just a lecturer trying to print a few pages, not an IT specialist, and I have lost all saturday morning on this. Please help!

I understand you are unable to print and have downloaded and installed the newest drivers.
See if the printer will print a hardware self test to find out if it is a hardware of software issue.
Press and hold the Cancel / Resume button and then press the Start Copy
Color button. The HP All-in-One prints a self-test report, which might indicate the source of the
Please, take a quick look at the "tip" of the USB cable that you're using. (I would like to know if it is the color blue). Also, take a look at the USB port physically on the computer and see what color that is.
Do you have another USB port on your notebook that doesn't have the "blue" color? If you do, plug it into there, restart the computer and then try printing again.
Use the normal usb slot 2.00 not the latest USB 3.00.
Did you get any errors or ! marks when you ran the printer and scan doctor?
Hope this helps.

My printer has done the self test thing but nothing seems wrong - That's if it's supposed to be just rows of dashes in black, grey and blue?
As far as I can tell, there isn't any blue on the USB cabel or the port.
Am using a 2.0 cable so that's fine.
And there was nothing indicated as a problem when I ran the printer doctor.

I will need to know the results to help you better.
What were the results of the printer and scan doctor? (did you get green check marks on everything, any errors)
What happens when you run the printer install wizard? (does it fully install but doesn't print, does it error out)
When you checked the device manager did it list the printer? (unknown device, usb printing support)

I got green check marks on everything when the print doctor ran, no errors found.
the printer install wizard seems to fully install and print the test print page etc.
And the printer is listed in the device manager bit.

So the print and scan doctor had no errors.
Did it print the test page?
The printer install wizard fully installed the printer and printed the test page.
What is the entry in the device manager for the printer?
But are you saying it still won't print any documents?
There still seems to be a issue with the drivers.
Delete any previous drivers for the printer and disconnect the USB cable of printer from CPU.
Here is a url to fully uninstall a printer in Win8.
Download the drivers, save the download.
Go to downloaded file and right click it and select properties.
Click Compatibility tab and check the box to change compatibility to Windows 8. At the bottom check Run as Administrator. Click OK.
Double left click the downloaded file and install the drivers.
Go to Control Panel and open Device and Printers. Power on your printer and plug its USB cable into the CPU.
Your printer should now be visible on Device and Printers as default printer.
Restart Windows and your printer should be ready for use.
