I have two all in one's. The OJ J4580 and the OJ 8500 Pro wireless.
On my two HP laptops, I have 64 bit Vista Home Premium. I also have a 32 bit vista version running on a desktop. The software installs fine on the desktop.
On the laptop though , I download the 64 bit specific driver package. I tried both basic and full featured. The software installation does not complete.
I haven't tried the J4580 installation in a while, and simply loaded the basic Windows drivers so I can plug it in and scan into a PDF.
For the 8500, I am trying to install it now. It loads up the "Installing Officejet Pro 8500 A909 Series" dialogue box, then gets stuck at 5% (full featured) or 2% (Basic driver package). I've left it installing for hours, and it never progresses. I opened up task manager -- I found out that if I end the process HPZREIN01.exe, it will go to 7%, but then crash with a dialogue box "Incorrect function". Clicking OK results in the installer exiting.
No error messages. I have only Symantec End Point installed and I have actually gone so far as to uninstall it during installations. No other firwall or sescurity software installed.
Vista Home Premium 64 bit installed on an HP laptop running and AMD X2 RM-72 processor. I have also tried msconfig --> disable all startup items as well as all non-microsoft services. did not help. The exact same problem occurs on both laptops running 64 bit Vista.
HP tech support is not useful -- PC people tell me to talk to printer people. printer people tell me to talk to PC people.
Please help me with this issue. I am downloading the 64 bit versions of the driver packages at the link below (so you can confirm):
Thank you if you help me solve this problem. Is there a log file I can find and post?

I know this will sound crazy, but make sure you have Flash player installed.
I went through quite a bit of trial and error with my full feature Vista 64 install for the Photosmart c309a... installer would just hang... not lock out or show any erros... but just hang. If I could find the log file again, I'd cut and paste... but anyways... after killing the installer process and rebooting for the third or fourth time.. I stumbled across something in one of the HP installer logs that referenced a missing Flash component.
Well, I uninstalled anything from HP, rebooted, installed Flash from the Adobe site, tried the HP installer again... and it worked! I'm positive that Flash fixed it... as even during the installation process I got a popup saying that whatever ActiveX control that the HP installer was trying to use was older than the current one... I clicked "ok" on that dialog and the install completed without a hitch. The c309a works flawlessly ever since. I think the GUI must be Flash based, but the installer freaks out when faced with needing to supply the required Flash files... just a guess at this point.. But like I said, a fresh install of Flash from the Adobe site fixed my issue.

Thanks for trying to help me! I did as you said, tried reinstalling the Flash program. Didn't help.
I spent 2 hours on the phone with HP support, allowing them to take over my PC remotely and they were still unable to install the software.
Please -- anyone?
